Pokemon SoulSilver - Onward to Olivine City

I decided to train my team a bit more before moving on to the next city, and after some effort Edward and Seth both grew to Level 23, and Seth learned Acid in place of Bullet Seed!

I decided before leaving Ecruteak that I should check out the Bell Tower, assuming that my Fog Badge made me worthy of reaching it. I talked to one of the monks in the rooms at the Barrier Station to Bell Tower, and he told me that the Johto Region has two legends, one about the Whirl Islands, and the other about the Bell Tower. The other man mentioned a rainbow-hued Pokemon flying over Bell Tower, and a silvery, sparkling Pokemon resting on the seabed. Neither gave much information beyond that.

When I made it through the path and into the forest, I saw the Bell Tower. I headed inside, and saw that it had a massive swaying pillar like the Sprout Tower. I went around and found a ladder leading up, and was stopped by a Monk who was standing next to it. He told me that long ago, there used to be a Pokemon at the top of the tower, named Ho-oh. He said it flew away, and no one has seen it since. He told me if anyone who could restore deep trust between people and Pokemon were to come here with something linked to Ho-oh, that it may return for that person. He then went back to the ladder, and I assumed I wasn't considered worthy to reach the top yet.

After I stocked up on some healing items at the Poke' Mart, I went ahead and started west on Route 38 toward Olivine City. I decided to search through the grass for new Pokemon, and the first I came across was a Miltank (Normal, Female, Lv. 13) and she put up a HELL of a fight, resisting an Ultra Ball and a few Great Balls even in the red and ASLEEP before she was finally caught. After another battle against wild Pokemon, I went back to Ecruteak City to heal my team, then try again.

With more work, I caught a Meowth (Normal, Female, Lv. 16), Farfetch'd (Normal/Flying, Male, Lv. 16), Tauros (Normal, Male, Lv. 15), and a Snubbull (Normal, Female, Lv. 13), and after a fight with a Sailor Blake grew to Level 24! I healed my team, and then continued west. I found myself against a Bird Keeper and her team went down easily against Blake. I grabbed a Wht Apricorn nearby and then went further through Roue 38.

I fought against a Beauty, and Samuel grew to Level 24. I fought against a School Kid and his Mr. Mime went down quickly against Edward, and we exchanged phone numbers after the battle. I checked around to see if any other Trainers were around, and I fought a Lass. After a somewhat difficult battle against her team, I won, and we exchanged phone numbers.

I soon found myself on Route 39, and was stopped by an old man named Baoba. He saw the Pokedex I carried with me, telling me he hadn't seen one in ages. He introduced himself, and told me he used to run the Safari Zone in Fuchsia City, but told me it was becoming out of date with new entertainment options coming out. Baoba told me he decided to go overseas to learn the newest technology and and open a state-of-the-art Safari Zone in Cianwood. We exchanged phone numbers so he could tell me when the Safari Zone was ready.

After he left I checked out Route 39 and quickly came across another Trainer, a Psychic, and his team went down easily. Seth grew to Level 24, and I moved on to find the Moomoo Farm. I went inside the building, and talked to the farmer there. He told me his Miltank wasn't giving milk anymore, and told me of the famous milk the farm produced. I went into the stables and checked on the Miltank, and I gave it a couple of Oran Berries to try and get it to feel better. I had a couple more growing in the Berry Pots, so I knew I'd have to come back soon.

I found TM60 (Drain Punch), then went south to fight against several more Trainers, and I exchanged phone numbers with one of them. I got a call from Mom right after the battles, who told me to check the nearby Poke' Mart for a delivery from her. I quickly found myself in Olivine City afterwards, and as I went to heal my team, I came across Aiden who stepped out of the Olivine Gym.

Aiden wasn't thrilled to see me, but told me I didn't need to be alert because he didn't bother with "wimps" like me. He told me that the Gym Leader wasn't there, and that he was supposedly taking care of a sick Pokemon at the Lighthouse. Aiden didn't think much of sick Pokemon, thinking it should just be left alone to die. He believed that a Pokemon that can't battle was worthless, and I was getting sick and tired of his attitude toward the amazing creatures we shared the world with!

Before Aiden left, he recommended that I go train by the Lighthouse, thinking it might make me a better Trainer. I was getting tired of dealing with him, and knew he wouldn't stand a chance against any single Pokemon on my previous teams.

I healed my team, and decided to rest for a while. After I was recovered, I would go and explore Olivine City in detail. My team has grown quite a bit since leaving behind the Ecruteak Gym, and I felt confident in their strength going to the next Gym Battle!

Current Team:

Seth (Weepinbell, Grass/Poison, Lv. 24)
Lucas (Pidgeotto, Normal/Flying, Lv. 24)
Blake (Croconaw, Water, Lv. 24)
Samuel (Monferno, Fire/Fighting, Lv. 24)
Claire (Haunter, Ghost/Poison, Lv. 26)
Edward (Elekid, Electric, Lv. 24)

Pokemon SoulSilver - Ecruteak Gym

While using the Pokewalker, I found 2 Heart Scales, 2 Lux Berries, a Stardust, and a Big Pearl.

I sold my valuables such as Stardust and the Big Pearl at the Poke' Mart and got quite a bit of cash, then I went to the Ecruteak Gym to get my next Badge.

When I went inside the Gym, I found myself on a path lit by two large candles, with some kind of thick fog flowing underneath. The man at the entrance told me that this was a Ghost-Type Gym, and I knew that Lucas would have a distinct advantage here. I saw the path ahead darkened except for a candle, and I headed forward.

I came across the first Trainer there, a Medium, and she wondered if I could inflict any damage on her Pokemon. I sent out Lucas against the Medium's Gastly. Lucas was able to make Gastly flinch with Twister, and he got Twister reduced by 4 PP from Spite before he was able to knock it out, then another Gastly was sent out. Lucas fought with the Gastly, taking it out with Gust attacks, and Gastly's Spite reduced Gust by 4 PP, and a third Gastly was sent out. I kept Lucas in the fight, and he was able to knock it out after Twister was reduced by another 4 PP by Spite. A fourth Gastly was sent out, and I sent out Blake, and thanks to Quick Claw he attacked first with Bite and Gastly was knocked out. A fifth Gastly was sent out, and Blake used Bite to knock it out and win the battle. Blake grew to Level 23, then we continued on the path after her light went out.

I tried to continue through the path, but I fell into the fog, came back up at the start of the Gym, and went through the path again. Soon I found myself in front of another Medium, and she sent out Haunter against Lucas. There was a prolonged battle between Lucas and the Haunter, which saw Lucas get hit with both Curse and Confusion for a double-dose of punishment, and while he was able to dish out damage the Haunter finally beat him. I had to send out Claire against it, and she used Shadow Punch to knock it out. Another Haunter was sent out, and Claire knocked it out with a single Shadow Punch.

The battle was won, and I considered going onward with one less Pokemon... I felt bad for Lucas, and knew while he didn't have very powerful attacks, his Normal/Flying-Type would make him immune to Ghost-Type attacks. He may not have had anything that was super effective against Ghost-Type Pokemon, but he was immune to direct attacks. I decided to leave the Gym and go to the Pokemon Center to heal him, knowing how tough my previous Gym Battles had been.

I handed out Sitrus Berries to most of my team, and gave Lucas a Lum Berry in case any other status effect should befall him, knowing that Ghost-Type attacks wouldn't be used against a Normal/Flying-Type like Lucas. I went back to the Ecruteak Gym and kept going through it.

Another Medium challenged me, and I wondered just how many more I would have to fight through to reach the Gym Leader. I sent out Lucas against her Haunter, and I had Lucas deal damage with Gust, going blow-for-blow with Haunter and it's Sucker Punches, until one failed when Lucas used Sand-Attack. Haunter failed with Sucker Punch again, because Lucas hit it with Sand-Attack again to lower it's accuracy. I knew Sucker Punch had one more use, so I had Lucas do another Sand-Attack, which caused Haunter's last Sucker Punch to fail. Haunter was able to use Confuse Ray to confuse Lucas after he hit it with Gust, but Lucas used the Lum Berry to snap out of confusion and knocked out Haunter to win the battle. Lucas grew to Level 23, and I continued on.

I fought against another Medium, and her team went down fairly easily against Lucas and Blake. I fell into the fog yet again, and had to go through the path again. I was starting to get tired of this long trip through the Gym and Mediums. I just wanted to fight the Gym Leader and get my next Gym Badge. I didn't know why it had to be such a long, hard fight just to get a Badge, but I was ready to make these Mediums pay for getting in my way!

I switched Blake to the head of my team, with his powerful Bite attack and higher Level being of more use than Lucas' attacks and defense. I fell into the fog again when I foolishly ran through the path, then slowly made my way through the path and finally found myself in front of the Gym Leader.

Morty, the Gym Leader, was happy that I was there. He told me that in Ecruteak, Pokemon had long been revered. He told me that the rainbow-hue of a golden Pokemon would come down to appear before a truly powerful Trainer, and he told me that was why he trained there all his life. Morty claimed he could now see what others couldn't, that he could see the shadow of the person who would make that Pokemon appear, and he believed that person was him. He told me I would help him reach that level, and then the battle began.

Morty sent out Gastly, and I sent out Blake to counter it. Blake's Quick Claw let him strike first with Bite, and it knocked out Gastly in a single blow. Morty sent out Gengar next, and Blake remained in battle. Gengar used Mean Look to keep Blake in the fight, but Blake hit it with Bite for great damage. Gengar used Hypnosis to put Blake to sleep, and he couldn't attack. I used my single Awakening to wake Blake up, then Gengar used Shadow Ball for massive damage, then another Shadow Ball hit to knock out Blake before he could attack, and I switched over to Lucas.

Gengar used Mean Look, then Lucas countered with Gust for minor damage, before it used a Sitrus Berry to heal itself. Gengar used Sucker Punch next for good damage, then Lucas used Twister for good damage. I had Lucas start hitting Gengar with Sand-Attack to lower it's accuracy to nothing as it kept missing with Hypnosis, before I had Lucas hit Gengar with Gust. The cycle continued for a few turns, missed Hypnosis and Gust doing minor damage, and then another Sand-Attack which caused Sucker Punch to fail. Finally Hypnosis landed and Lucas was put asleep, but it could do nothing against Lucas. It kept trying to use Sucker Punch, but I kept telling Lucas to use Sand-Attack knowing it would cause that move to fail. Finally Lucas woke up and used another Sand-Attack, then kept up with Gust.

Morty used a Hyper Potion on Gengar when I got it to the red, and another Gust did minor damage. I didn't know how long I could keep at it, but I knew Gengar couldn't do much against Lucas when it's most powerful attack, Shadow Ball, would do nothing against Lucas' Normal/Flying-Type. Gengar kept missing Hypnosis, and Lucas hit it with Twister. A Hypnosis landed to put Lucas to sleep, and Gengar was finally forced to try an ineffective Shadow Ball against Lucas. I knew I had it where I wanted it, even if it was healed again with a Hyper Potion. Lucas woke up and hit it with Twister for minor damage, picking away at Gengar's health while it kept missing with Hypnosis. Lucas started hitting Gengar with Gust again for the STAB attack-buff, and finally Gengar went down, and Lucas grew to Level 24!

Haunter was sent out next, and I decided to switch to Claire. Claire hit Haunter with Shadow Punch for massive damage, and it went down instantly and brought Claire up to Level 26! Another Haunter was sent in, and I kept Claire in the fight. Morty refused to give up, believing he could still win the fight. I thought that was admirable, but I knew he couldn't win this. Claire used Shadow Punch on Haunter and did massive damage, but it clung on to use Curse, and it knocked itself out to place that curse.

Morty was defeated, and I won my battle against the Ecruteak Gym! Morty thought our potentials were similar, but told me I seemed to have something more than that. He gave me the Fog Badge, and told me that Pokemon up to Level 50 would obey me, and I could have Blake use Surf outside of battle. He also handed over TM30 (Shadow Ball) and I knew that Claire could put that TM to some good use, even if she would learn the move eventually.

Morty realized that I was the person that the Kimono Girls had been talking about, but told me not to mind him. He told me I should be strong enough to go across the sea, and that by going west and south, I could reach Olivine City, where I assumed I would find the next Johto Gym.

I taught Shadow Ball to Claire in place of Shadow Punch, and then I went to the Pokemon Center to heal my team before I got a call from Mom telling me another item was purchased with my money and waiting at the nearby Poke' Mart. I healed my team and got a Super Potion, then I decided my team had earned a good night's rest after such a great battle.

My fourth Gym Badge in the Johto League, and it was a well-earned victory. I know it will only get harder from here, but I believe in the strength of my team, and I think I've got enough variety to beat every Gym Leader ahead of me. I just need to make sure they're trained properly.

Current Team:

Blake (Croconaw, Water, Lv. 23)
Lucas (Pidgeotto, Normal/Flying, Lv. 24)
Samuel (Monferno, Fire/Fighting, Lv. 23)
Edward (Elekid, Electric, Lv. 21)
Claire (Haunter, Ghost/Poison, Lv. 26)
Seth (Weepinbell, Grass/Poison, Lv. 21)

Pokemon SoulSilver - Ecruteak City

While I trained hard with my team on Route 37, Seth grew to Level 21 and evolved into Weepinbell, Lucas and Edward grew to Level 21, Blake and Samuel grew to Level 22, and Claire grew to Level 25 and evolved into Haunter, and learned Shadow Punch in place of Sucker Punch!

I had arrived in Ecruteak City, the "historical city" according to the sign, and it lived up to it's reputation. All the buildings were of ancient Japanese design, kept up over the centuries. It was an old city with much history behind it, and I was interested in learning more about this place and Johto as a whole.

I talked to a few people in the city, and one of them gave me a Dowsing Machine, which I registered to quick select to find hidden items around the region. I went to the Poke' Mart to buy supplies, including Pokeballs, Great Balls, and Potions. I talked to a few more people around the city, and learned from one that Ecruteak City once had two towers, one in the east and one in the west, but it looked like the west tower had burned down long, long ago.

I soon found myself in front of the Ecruteak Dance Theater, and decided to check it out. When I went inside, I found the Kimono Girl at the stage being harassed by a Rocket Grunt, who demanded she stop doing her serious dance and do something like a hula dance. She responded that he shouldn't push such a request on her, and that just made him angry, talking about how the customer is always right. The Rocket Grunt said that he would show her how to dance, and it would be a great one.

I saw the Rocket Grunt suddenly start spinning around, showing the Kimono Girl how he wanted her to dance. I talked to an old man among the audience, and he told me that I needed to help defend his Kimono Girl. I confronted the Rocket Grunt, and he was pissed off that I was getting in his way. I was ready to take care of another of these Rocket Grunts.

I sent out Lucas against his Koffing, and Lucas used Gust for massive damage, then it countered with Tackle for minor damage. Lucas hit it with Quick Attack next and knocked it out, and the battle was already over. He claimed I made him look like a villain, then said he had an important mission, that they couldn't find out he was wasting time there or they'd make him start over as the lowest rank. He then left to cause more trouble.

I talked to the Kimono Girl, and she knew who I was. She told me the battle was excellent, that I was kind and strong, and that I was good at raising Pokemon. She said how "that person" knows what to look for in people, and I could only imagine she meant Professor Oak. She then laughed and told me she was just talking to herself, to not mind her. I talked to the old man again, and he told me how courageous I was for my age. He gave me HM03 (Surf) and I made sure to teach it to Blake in place of Water Gun!

I decided to check out the path heading east, but I found myself in front of Mt. Mortar. I grabbed a nearby TM65 (Shadow Claw) and then met up with a Hiker who ran out of the cave. He apologized for bumping into me, and handed over HM04 (Strength) and I found that I couldn't continue any further without having a Badge that allowed me to Surf.

I went back to Ecruteak City, and went into the Burned Tower to explore it. When I went inside, I saw burnt boards around, and a massive hole in the floor leading to the stone brick basement which held three odd, unique Pokemon. There were a couple people nearby, and I went over to talk to them, and was greeted by a man named Eusine. He told me he was looking for a Pokemon named Suicune. I introduced myself, and he told me he heard rumors that Suicune was there, so he came to look. Eusine told me to take a look at the basement through the huge hole in the floor, which I had seen before, telling me one of those three was Suicune. He told me he could go down there, but he knew it would run away instantly. He told me he tried many times before, and each time it ran away.

I talked to the man near Eusine, and he introduced himself as Morty, the Ecruteak Gym Leader, and told me he was there to support his friend Eusine on his search for Suicune. Morty told me that Ecruteak had a legend about these Legendary Pokemon; Suicune, Entei, and Raikou. He told me that as the Gym Leader of Ecruteak, he needed to have a proper understanding of the legend.

I continued north in the Burned Tower and came across Aiden, who assumed I was there to catch the Legendary Pokemon to make myself look strong. He told me that was a dream, that they suit a Trainer like him who had sworn to become the strongest Trainer. He told me that a battle with Team Rocket grunts was just right for me, that it was the only thing I was good for.

Aiden sent out Gastly, and I sent out Lucas against it. Lucas hit it with Gust for great damage, then it used Mean Look to keep Lucas in the fight. Lucas hit it with Gust again for great damage, then it used Curse to knock itself out and lay a curse on Lucas. Lucas grew to Level 22, and learned a Dragon-Type move, Twister, in place of Tackle, then he took some good damage from the curse.

I sent out Samuel against his Magnemite, and he used Flame Wheel for massive damage resulting in an instant KO! Next up was Zubat, and I sent out Edward against it. Edward hit Zubat with Thunder Punch for massive damage, and another instant KO! I sent out Samuel against his final Pokemon, Bayleef, and Aiden was starting to sweat. Samuel hit Bayleef with Flame Wheel for massive damage, and it received a burn, then it used Poison Powder to poison Samuel. Both were hurt by their status effects, and Aiden claimed he was going easy on me, then Samuel hit Bayleef with Mach Punch for good damage, and it used Reflect to increase it's defense, before burn took it out. Samuel grew to Level 23, and the battle was over.

Aiden told me he would never fight another weakling again, that he was done playing around. Then he just told me that I would never be able to catch a Legendary Pokemon, and pushed me out of the way before he left. After the battle I got a call from Mom that she had bought something else with my money, and that a deliveryman was waiting at the nearest Poke' Mart to bring it to me.

I healed my team, and fought a couple Trainers on that floor, before I decided to head down to the basement to see the Legendary Trio of Johto. When I went down there and got close to the center of the basement, the three Pokemon jumped up and ran off, and the last one, Suicune, paused to look me over before it too ran off.

Eusine came down the ladder, and asked me if I saw it, if I saw Suicune. He was amazed at how it raced by him like a blur, and he told me that he had never gotten that close in ten years. He told me that it was clear that Suicune took notice of my presence, and he told me that Ecruteak's Legendary Pokemon are said to come to people only when they recognize their talents. Eusine wondered if perhaps he should be more aggressive toward Suicune, but I had no answer for him.

Eusine left the Burnt Tower, and I left right after him. I healed my team at the Pokemon Center, and then decided to rest for the night. Soon I'll go for my next Gym Badge!

Current Team:

Seth (Weepinbell, Grass/Poison, Lv. 21)
Blake (Croconaw, Water, Lv. 22)
Samuel (Monferno, Fire/Fighting, Lv. 23)
Edward (Elekid, Electric, Lv. 21)
Claire (Haunter, Ghost/Poison, Lv. 25)
Lucas (Pidgeotto, Normal/Flying, Lv. 22)

Pokemon SoulSilver - Heading to Ecruteak City

I went east on Route 35 to fight a Bug Trainer, and Lucas took out his Venonat easily. I decided to head back to the National Park when I thought that there could be Trainers there to fight against. I found several Trainers wanting to battle, and through all my training Blake, Lucas, and Seth all grew to Level 19, and I caught a Sunkern (Grass, Male, Lv. 12). I also found a Soothe Bell, and TM28 (Dig), and I was given a Quick Claw!

I gave Blake the Quick Claw to hold, then I decided to go through Route 35 past the Bug Trainer from earlier, and continue on my way to Ecruteak City. I went exploring a bit on a side-path of Route 35 and found a Parlyz Heal, TM66 (Payback), and I fought against a Bird Keeper and a few wild Pokemon which made Blake grow to Level 20.

I cut a tree down and found myself on Route 36, and I went east past a Trainer who went down easily, and then I met up with Floria, from the Flower Shop. She told me to go ahead and water that thing, knowing it must be some kind of Pokemon, and I pulled out Seth before I watered it. It wiggled a bit, then jumped up and attacked. It was indeed a Sudowoodo (Rock, Male, Lv. 20) and I knew Seth was up to the challenge. Seth used Vine Whip for good damage, then Sudowoodo used Mimic to learn Vine Whip. Seth used Bullet Seed next for great damage, then Sudowoodo countered with Low Kick for minor damage. Seth used Vine Whip again for great damage, then it countered with Low Kick again for minor damage. Seth hit Sudowoodo with Vine Whip for great damage, and it clung on, then countered with Flail to knock Seth out! I knew I could catch it if I wanted, but I already had Bonsly from Sinnoh and I wanted revenge for Seth! I sent in Lucas, and his Quick Attack knocked Sudowoodo out and brought him to Level 20!

After the battle Floria thanked me for entertaining her, and gave me Berry Pots as a reward. She told me that with the Berry Pots, I could grow Berries from any region with no worries. She also gave me some Oran and Pecha Berries to start out with. She advised me to go north for Ecruteak City, but I decided to first head east to Violet City to heal my team, and after that I continued toward Ecruteak City.

With my team healed, I headed north upward to Route 37, where I sneaked past a Trainer to get 1 each of Blk, Red, and Blu Apricorns! I then decided to fight against the Psychic I had sneaked past, using Claire to fight against his Pokemon. He sent out Drowzee, and I had Claire try Sucker Punch, but it failed, and then it used Disable to stop her from using that ONLY attack. I switched to Edward, who avoided Drowzee's attack. Edward hit it with Thunder Punch for massive damage, then it used Disable to lock out the attack. Edward hit it with Shock Wave to knock it out and win the battle, and Edward grew to Level 20!

I caught a Stantler (Normal, Male. Lv. 15) who managed to knock out Seth and do a lot of damage to Claire. I went back to Violet City to heal my team again, then continued on north through Route 37. I found myself against a pair of twin girls, and they wanted a battle. I sent out Claire and Edward, and they sent out Marill and Mareep. Claire used Confuse Ray on Mareep, then Edward hit Marill with Thunder Punch for an instant KO, then Mareep used Thunder Shock against Claire for massive damage. Claire used Hypnosis on Mareep to put it to sleep, then Edward hit it with Headbutt for massive damage. Claire used Sucker Punch to knock it out, but became paralyzed by it's Static ability. The battle was over, and I healed my Pokemon before continuing on.

Very shortly ahead I came across another pair of Trainers, two Beauties, and they both wanted a fight. I sent out Claire and Seth, while they sent out Clefable and Wigglytuff. I realized that Claire could only aid Seth with support attacks, as Sucker Punch is just too unreliable. Claire used Hypnosis on Wigglytuff to put it to sleep, then Clefable used Encore, before Seth hit it with Cut for good damage and it's ability made Seth fall in love. Claire used Hypnosis on Clefable, and it was asleep while Seth was immobilized by love.

Claire kept on attempting to use Hypnosis to keep the two asleep, then Seth hit Wigglytuff with Vine Whip for massive damage. Wigglytuff woke up and used some odd attack that lowered stats of both Claire and Seth, then I decided neither of my Pokemon could be of much use, so I switched to Lucas and Blake. Clefable used Metronome to use Foresight, then Wigglytuff woke up and failed with Disable. Lucas hit Wigglytuff with Gust for good damage, then Blake used Scratch on Clefable for great damage. Clefable countered Blake with Double Slap for good damage, then Wigglytuff hit Blake with Pound for good damage. Lucas used Gust against Wigglytuff for good daamage, then Blake used Bite against Clefable for great damage, then it used Metronome for Mega Drain against Blake for great damage, before Blake was hit by Wigglytuff's Pound for good damage.

Blake fell in love with Clefable, and was immobilized by Love, then Lucas used Gust against Wigglytuff to knock it out, then Clefable used Encore on Lucas. Lucas used Tackle on Clefable for good damage, then Blake used Bite on it to knock it out, while the other Clefable sent out used Double Slap against Blake for good damage. Another Wigglytuff was sent out, then I switched Blake for Lucas. Lucas hit Clefable with Tackle for good damage, then it used Metronome for Explosion to knock out Lucas and Seth as well as itself and it's teammate, Wigglytuff. Blake got a lot of experience and grew to Level 21, and he learned Ice Fang in place of Leer, then the battle was over.

I kept onward, and fought against a Pidgey with Claire before I finally made it to Ecruteak City! I went immediately to the Pokemon Center to heal my team after that tough fight, then saw a man come down from the upper level to talk to Nurse Joy. I went up and he introduced himself as Bill, and I introduced myself to him. I was informed by him that he developed the PC transfer system, and that he had a lot of help with it by people like Lanette who made the Pokemon Storage System easier to use. He told me he had friends all over the world working together to improve the Pokemon trade and storage systems.

After Bill left to see his parents in Goldenrod City, I healed my team and decided to do some training to get them ready for the battle ahead. I wanted to get Claire to evolve and gain a proper attack before moving on to fight the next Gym Leader!

Current Team:

Claire (Gastly, Ghost/Poison, Lv. 22)
Seth (Bellsprout, Grass/Poison, Lv. 19)
Samuel (Monferno, Fire/Fighting, Lv. 21)
Blake (Croconaw, Water, Lv. 21)
Lucas (Pidgeotto, Normal/Flying, Lv. 20)
Edward (Elekid, Electric, Lv. 20)

Pokemon SoulSilver - Pokeathlon Dome

Using the Pokewalker, I managed to catch a Grimer (Poison, Male, Lv. 13) and a Smoochum (Ice/Psychic, Female, Lv. 12), and I found a Poke Ball, Dive Ball, X Attack, Heart Scale, and a Dire Hit.

I decided to check out the Pokeathlon Dome there near the National Park. I went through the path and was spotted by a laughing old man. He sized me up, telling me that I was something, and that Edward was quite a Pokemon. He told me that Edward was ready to participate in the Pokeathlon. He talked to me about trust between myself and my Pokemon making him believe in infinite possibilities, and then led me to the Pokeathlon Dome.

The Dome was very large and flashy, with a light pattern on the roof. He told me that Pokeathlon is a sports festival for Trainers and Pokemon. He told me that inside the Dome there were various challenges awaiting Trainers and Pokemon to test their friendship. The old man suggested I try it, and I saw no reason not to. I had faith in my Pokemon and our bonds together even this early on in our journey.

The old man introduced himself as Magnus, and told me he was glad to find a Trainer with such potential, and that he was glad he started this thing in Johto. He then went inside the Dome, and I followed him in. Inside it was very flashy, with pulsing lights on the paths and pillars where colored lights flowed from one pillar to the next.

I went to the desk, and Whitney came up to me. She told me she was there for the Pokeathlon too, and that she's been excited since its construction. Whitney suddenly jumped back, and asked if I was going to participate in the Pokeathlon looking like this. I saw nothing wrong with my current outfit, though she claimed I wasn't even prepared at all. She asked if I was a medium or a small, then she got me a jersey in my size.

Whitney told me I looked great, then realized she didn't know where her Pokemon was. Whitney left, and I talked to the woman at the desk. I decided to try the Pokeathlon, but first I went ahead and asked about how it all worked. It seemed that each course consisted of three events that required Pokemon of a specific strength. I checked my Pokedex and found that I could see the performance stats of my team, so I could go into the Pokeathlon without doing it blind.

I decided that I would do the Power Course with Edward, Blake, and Lucas. I changed into my Jersey, and was informed my team color was red, before I went through the door to select my team. Event 1 was Block Smash, where I had to break lots of blocks and switch between my Pokemon while doing so. I ended up in 3rd place with 70 pieces, 2nd place was Mac with 82 pieces and Mandie won with 83 pieces, while Aven finished in 4th with 60 pieces.

Event 2 was Circle Push, where I had to move my Pokemon around into the circle by controlling all three at once. Different circles would pop up and everyone needed to get their Pokemon into them, shoving others out of the way. It was 6 rounds and each round had more, smaller circles popping up, with various point values. I won Event 2 with 44 points, Aven was in 2nd place with 41 points, Mac was in 3rd with 38 points and Mandie was last with 29 points.

I was in first place for total points, but there was still Event 3 which would decide the winner. The name of the game was Goal Roll, where I needed to get the ball in an opponent's goal with all three Pokemon. It was extremely crazy, having to control 3 different Pokemon while playing against 9 other Pokemon all trying to shove one ball into three other goals while trying to defend yours. Each ball you scored was 1 point, and each ball scored in your goal was -1 point. Mac won with 3 points, I was in 2nd with 1 point, and Mandie and Aven tied for 3rd with 0 points.

After everything, everyone got extra points for various things like No Miss, or Effort, and Mandie got a lot of points through that. Finally everything was added up, and Mac was the winner at 343 points, and I was 2nd with 320 points. I left the field disappointed, especially in my poor showing at Event 3. The receptionist congratulated me on a good job, and told me I would receive Athlete Points based on my score. I earned 320 points, and nothing else. I thought that maybe I could earn something for being in 2nd, but apparently not.

With no Power Medal, and nothing to really do with those Athlete Points, I left the Pokeathlon Dome disappointed. I decided I wouldn't bother trying again until my Pokemon were stronger, and perhaps after getting more information on how those games worked. The road to being a Pokemon Master is paved with hardship, and I can't beat every challenge or win every battle, but to have lost in two different competitions on top of having difficulties in this region makes me wonder about the road ahead...

I came across an Aprijuce stand near the Dome, and was given an Apriblender in my Apricorn box. I was told with that, I could make Aprijuice to let my Pokemon show their true potential, whatever that really meant. She said all I have to do is put in a bunch of Apricorns and then walk around to make it blend. I asked her what Aprijuce was to begin with, and she told me that it improves a Pokemon's Performance stat, which I found earlier on the Pokedex. I was told I could max out their Performance stats if I fed them Aprijuice, and I felt a bit better about trying again later.

I encountered Cameron the Photographer again, and I agreed to another Photo. After that I looked around a bit, then I left to head to Goldenrod City. I got a call from the Bike Shop owner, who told me he was selling a lot of Bikes now thanks to me riding around providing advertising. He thanked me for all my help, and told me I could keep the Bike as a reward. I felt glad that at least something good was coming of all this mess.

Pokemon SoulSilver - National Park and the Bug-Catching Contest

With my latest Badge in hand, I headed north to Route 35. I quickly came across a Trainer, and I sent out Seth against her Vulpix. Vulpix used Tail Whip to lower Seth's defense, then he hit it with Cut for great damage. Seth hit it with Poison Powder next, and then it countered with Roar to chase him away and drag out Lucas instead. Vulpix was hurt by the poison, and used Quick Attack for minor damage, then Lucas used Gust for good damage combined with the poison damage. Lucas used Quick Attack to knock it out, and the battle was won.

Shortly after beating that Trainer, I came across a man named Cameron the Photographer. He asked to take my picture, and I agreed. I posed with my whole team, and after it was taken he told me I could see all photos on the PC. I continued north and found a pair of Trainers who wanted to fight. First the boy wanted to show off to his girlfriend, and I sent out Seth against his Sandshrew. Seth used Bullet Seed for massive damage, then it countered with Rapid Spin for minor damage. Seth hit it with Vine Whip and knocked it out, then Marill was sent out. Seth hit Marill with Vine Whip for massive damage, then it used Defense Curl to raise it's defense. Another Vine Whip from Seth knocked it out, and he grew to Level 18, then the battle was over.

Right after the boy, I fought against his girlfriend, who told me she couldn't rely on her weak boyfriend. I sent out Edward against her Pikachu, and he used Swift for great damage, before it used Growl to lower Edward's attack. Pikachu hit Edward with Quick Attack for good damage, and was paralyzed by his ability, then he countered with Headbutt for great damage. Pikachu used Quick Attack again for good damage, then Edward countered with Swift to knock it out and win the battle.

I fought against another Trainer, and I sent Edward out against his Diglett. Edward hit it with Swift for massive damage, then it used Scratch for minor damage. Edward hit it with Headbutt to knock it out, then another Diglett was sent out. Edward used Swift for massive damage, then it countered with Astonish for good damage, and was paralyzed by Edward's ability. Edward hit it with Headbutt to knock it out, and then Zubat was sent out last. Edward hit Zubat with Thunder Punch to knock it out instantly, and the battle was won.

I healed Edward, and then continued further north. I came across yet another Trainer, an oddly dressed man, who wanted to fight. Edward knocked out the first two Voltorbs the Trainer sent out with Swift, and he grew to Level 18. I switched out to Claire for his third Voltorb, and then it was switched out for another Voltorb before Claire's Sucker Punch failed. Claire hit it with Sucker Punch for great damage, then it countered with Spark for good damage. Claire failed with Sucker Punch again, because Voltorb used Charge to increase it's special defense. Claire hit it with Sucker Punch again and it was knocked out, then another Voltorb was sent out and I sent Seth out against it. Seth took the last Voltorb out to win the battle, though he was left paralyzed by Voltorb's ability.

I exchanged numbers with the Juggler after he realized I was the one who saved all the Slowpoke, and then I went north to fight another Trainer, also oddly dressed. He turned out to be a Firebreather, and I sent out Edward against his Magmar. Edward hit it with Swift for great damage, then it used Smoke Screen to lower Edward's accuracy. Magmar kept at it, trying to lower Edward's accuracy, but the flawless accuracy of Edward's Swift allowed him to hit Magmar again and again for the knock-out, then another Magmar was sent out. The battle between Edward and the second Magmar went about the same way, and Edward grew to Level 19, and learned Shockwave in place of Swift before the battle was over.

I exchanged phone numbers with the Firebreather, and continued further north. Finally I came across a building which read "North to National Park, West to Pokeathlon Dome." I went inside, and was informed that the Bug-Catching Contest was up and running! I kept Edward with me, and had to hand over the rest of my team, then I was given Sport Balls to catch Bug-Type Pokemon with. The first Bug-Type I came across was Kakuna, but I left to find something stronger for the contest... The second Pokemon was a Caterpie (Bug, Male, Lv. 8) and I caught it with a single Sport Ball. The Second Pokemon was a Butterfree  and a Headbutt did great damage and made it flinch, but it escaped the Sport Ball. I had Edward use Headbutt again after it failed to use Sleep Powder, and another Sport Ball failed. I decided to get out of there, as I knew it wouldn't be worth much at such minimal health.

Another Butterfree found, and I left it alone. I spotted a Metapod, but decided to leave it be too. I knew there had to be some really rare Bug-Type Pokemon in here I could catch! I came across a Paras, and let it be. I went further north to even taller grass, and came across a Caterpie I let be. I came across a Beedrill, but left knowing that I already had a Weedle ready to train to that point. Continuing on, I passed a Weedle, a Caterpie, another Weedle, a Kakuna, and then finally came across a Pinsir. I sent out Edward, and it used Bind for minor damage and was paralyzed, then Edward used Headbutt for good damage. I tried a Sport Ball, but it barely managed to escape. Edward was hurt by Bind, and I tried another Sport Ball but it escaped immediately, then I decided to flee before Edward took too much more damage.

Unfortunately Pinsir wouldn't let me run, so I told Edward to use Headbutt again, and it flinched, but Bind did more damage. I used another Sport Ball but it escaped quickly. Edward was paralyzed and couldn't move, then he got hit by Bind again. I tried one more Sport Ball, but it escaped and knocked out Edward. I dropped nearly $700 as I ran, and my run was over. I placed third with Caterpie, with 257 Points, then Benny was second with Butterfree at 267 Points, and Don, who managed to catch a Scyther, 336 Points. I felt frustrated, having lost to a rare Bug-Type like Pinsir when I could have found a valuable Pokemon like Scyther instead!

I won a Sitrus Berry for my trouble, then I decided to wander around a bit. I felt happy to have caught a new Pokemon at least, but disappointed that I couldn't get the Scyther that I had so wanted for my collection. I went south to the main building and left to check out the tall grass on Route 35, and quickly discovered a Nidoran (Poison, Female, Lv. 12) which was soon caught. I decided to do some searching, and found a Nidoran (Poison, Male, Lv. 12) which was also quickly caught.

I decided to call it a day, promising myself that I would go west and check out the Pokeathlon Dome next. I wasn't sure what was in store for me there, but I knew that my team was ready for the challenge!

Pokemon SoulSilver - Goldenrod Gym

With my last couple Pokemon now properly named and a shiny new Bike to get around with, it was time to get my next Gym Badge.

My team consisted of:

Blake (Totodile, Water, Lv. 17)
Samuel (Monferno, Fire/Fighting, Level 17)
Seth (Bellsprout, Grass/Poison, Lv. 17)
Lucas (Pidgeotto, Normal/Flying, Lv. 18)
Edward (Elekid, Electric, Lv. 17)
Claire (Gastly, Ghost/Poison, Lv. 22)

I was surprised to find out that the Goldenrod Gym was a Normal-Type Gym, and I knew that Samuel would do quite well here, assuming his training had been enough. I remembered the Petalburg Gym being another Gym devoted to Normal-Type Pokemon, and I found the concept a bit odd, but considering Normal-Type Pokemon and attacks are decent against most types, I suppose it makes sense to focus on them.

Inside I found it to be a maze of paths at different levels, filled by Trainers, and I knew I'd have to make my way through all of them before I finally got to the Gym Leader. I came across the first Trainer, and I sent out Blake against her Meowth. There was an extended battle between the two, both trading blows, before Blake came out victorious. Another Meowth was sent out, and I sent Samuel against it. Samuel hit the second Meowth with Mach Punch and took it out in one blow, and he grew to Level 18 and won the battle.

I went further through the maze and encountered another Trainer. She sent out Sentret, and I sent out Blake. Blake hit it with Water Gun for massive damage, then it used Foresight to identify Blake. Blake used Scratch for great damage, and knocked it out. Another Sentret was sent out, and Blake stayed in the fight. Sentret used Quick Attack for good damage, then Blake countered with Bite for massive damage. Blake hit it with Scratch and knocked it out, and then a third Sentret was sent out. Blake used Water Gun for good damage, then Sentret used Defense Curl to increase it's defense. Blake hit it with Bite for massive damage, a critical hit that knocked it out and won the battle, and upon victory he grew to Level 18 and evolved into Croconaw!

I continued through the maze, amazed at how huge Blake had grown from evolution. He was as big as I was as we walked together back down and into the center of the maze, to the next Trainer.  I sent out Samuel against her Snubbull, whose Intimidate cut his attack. Samuel used Mach Punch for great damage before it countered with Scary Face to lower speed. Samuel hit it with Rock Smash for great damage, and it used Lick for minor damage, then Samuel finished it off with another Rock Smash.

I switched Samuel to the front of the team and continued on as he walked behind me. The next Trainer had a Jigglypuff, and I sent out Samuel against it. Samuel hit it with Mach Punch for massive damage, and it was knocked out instantly. Another Jigglypuff sent out, another Mach Punch that knocked it out instantly. Samuel grew to Level 19 and learned Flame Wheel in place of Ember. The Lass sent out her third and final Jigglypuff, and it too was knocked out by Mach Punch, and the battle was over.

Finally after getting through all the Beauties and Lasses, I finally got to the Gym Leader, Whitney. I realized that she was the one I saw at the Radio Tower who thought the third answer was "Apricot." She introduced herself, and she remembered me from the Radio Tower too. She told me she got into Pokemon because everyone else was, and that she thinks they're super cute. She warned me of how good she was when I told her I was there to challenge her, but I have faith in my team, and especially Samuel.

Whitney sent out Clefairy, and I sent out Samuel. Samuel hit it with Mach Punch for massive damage, then it's Cute Charm caused him to become infatuated, before it used Mimic to learn Mach Punch. Samuel was in love with Clefairy, but used Mach Punch to knock it out and grow to Level 20.

Whitney sent out Miltank next, and I kept Samuel in the fight. Samuel hit it with Mach Punch for great damage, then it used Attract to make Samuel fall in love. Samuel was in love, and was immobilized, then he got hit by Stomp for great damage. Samuel was still immobilzed by love when he got hit by Stomp again for great damage. I gave Samuel a Super Potion to heal up before he got hit by Stomp again for good damage.

I wondered how much longer Samuel would be in love while getting kicked in the face, over and over again... Samuel used Mach Punch again for good damage, and Miltank countered with Stomp for great damage. I gave Samuel another Super Potion, and he was hit by Stomp for great damage. Samuel hit Miltank with Mach Punch again for good damage, and it countered with Stomp for great damage. Whitney used a Super Potion to heal Miltank, and then Samuel used Rock Smash for good damage.

I gave Samuel another Super Potion, and he got hit by Stomp for great damage. Samuel and Miltank both traded blows for great damage, then I gave Samuel a Super Potion to heal him again, and he got hit by Stomp again for great damage. Samuel was immobilized by love and got hit by Stomp for great damage, then on the next turn Samuel used Mach Punch again for great damage, but Miltank clung on and used Stomp to knock out Samuel.

I switched out to Edward, and Whitney used a Super Potion to heal Miltank before he hit it with Thunder Punch for good damage. Miltank used Stomp for massive damage, and Edward flinched. Miltank used Stomp again and Edward was knocked out. His static ability made it paralyzed for a moment, before it used a berry to heal itself of the status.

I switched out to Claire, hoping that she might be able to do something. I used Revive on Samuel, then Miltank used Milk Drink to heal itself fully. Claire hit it with Confuse Ray, and it used Rollout for great damage. Claire used Destiny Bond next, and then Miltank used Rollout to knock out Claire, but Destiny Bond kicked in and knocked it out too!

Samuel grew to Level 21 since he was revived, and I felt great when the battle ended. I felt like perhaps it was a cheap win, with Destiny Bond having taken her Miltank down, but I was glad to have the victory anyway. Miltank was tough, especially when I've had such a hard time training my Pokemon, and with all but Claire being male and thus susceptible to Attract, I was just lucky that Samuel kept fighting as long as he had.

With the battle over, Whitney just started crying, calling me a "meanie." I tried to talk to her, but she would only cry and refused to give me the Gym Badge I had rightfully won. I felt angry that after my honest victory, all she could do was sit there and cry. I was angry that she refused to give me the Gym Badge I deserved. I felt like punching her in the face, but I knew that wouldn't do me any good, so I just left.

Before I could get far into the maze again, the one Lass came up and told me that Whitney would stop crying soon, that she always cries when she loses. I wondered how the hell she was a Gym Leader then, because the whole point of Gym Leaders is to be defeated by powerful Trainers. I went back to her, and when I told her I wanted my Badge, she told me she forgot, and handed over the Plain Badge! She also handed over TM45 (Attract) as well, though I found the move frustrating to fight against...

Whitney told me about something called the Pokeathlon Dome that was open right next to the National Park, and told me I should go try it since I'm so good at battling with my Pokemon. Afterward she told me to come for a visit again, and bid me farewell.

When I left the gym, I got word from Mom that she bought something else with my money, and had it waiting by deliveryman at the Goldenrod Department Store. I healed my team first at the Pokemon Center, then I went to the Goldenrod Department Store to receive some Shuca Berries, which weaken super effective Ground-Type attacks. I also went to the Flower Shop to receive a Squirt Bottle for the odd "tree" on Route 36.

With another Badge in my collection, I knew I would have to train my team even HARDER to face the challenges ahead. I couldn't believe the strength of her Miltank, and I wondered how much more I could go through when I found it so hard to continue training my team. I find it funny how Claire helped me win another Badge with her odd attacks once more, but I was glad for it.

Current Team:

Samuel (Monferno, Fire/Fighting, Lv. 21)
Blake (Croconaw, Water, Lv. 18)
Seth (Bellsprout, Grass/Poison, Lv. 17)
Lucas (Pidgeotto, Normal/Flying, Lv. 18)
Edward (Elekid, Electric, Lv. 17)
Claire (Gastly, Ghost/Poison, Lv. 22)

Pokemon SoulSilver - Goldenrod City

First thing I did after my training and healing my Pokemon was to check out the nearest building, which I found to be the Goldenrod Department Store. I got some Rindo Berries from the deliveryman there courtesy of Mom, and then started looking around. I went to the second floor, which had standard Poke' Mart fare, and talking to some shoppers I found out that Goldenrod City had it's own Game Corner. I went to the third floor, which had combat-boosting items like X Attack and Dire Hit. The fourth floor held stat-boosting items like Protein and HP Up, which I've never actually used before. I checked the fifth floor and found that it dealt with TMs of all kinds, though none I was interested in at the moment. The sixth floor was the rest area, and it held a Daily Drawing Corner game. I bought a ticket for $300 and got myself a Chesto Berry for my trouble.

I went to the elevator, and found a basement I could go to, so I went down below and was informed that this was the warehouse, and that it wasn't open to customers. I went into the basement anyway and found several men walking around with Machop helping them move things. I was told the things on the floor were junk, and I was free to take them. I found an Ether, a Burn Heal, and an Ultra Ball, before I found a locked door and went back to the elevator to leave on the first floor.

Near the Goldenrod Department Store, I found the Goldenrod Game Corner. I went inside and met a man named Mr. Game, who invited me to play his Coin game. I agreed, and he gave me a Coin Case, and then he told me to sit across from him and play. I found it odd, it wasn't like the Game Corner in Mauville City or Veilstone City, where they were more traditional casinos. The Goldenrod Game Corner was an extravagant room with small walls near the entrance to make it into a semi-room with a large entrance to the main room, and it held two couches on either side of a table with a large touchscreen.

The name of the game was Voltorb Flip, and it consisted of flipping over cards to find numbers hidden beneath them. The cards had numbers 1, 2, and 3 on them, as well as Voltorb. The first card I found with a number would give me that many coins, and from then on the next number I find would give me a multiple of that first number, and it looked like I could keep going until I quit or found a Voltorb card, in which I'd lose my coins. If I could find all the 2 and 3 cards, I'd win and be pushed to another level to earn more coins, but lose and I'd get nothing.

I gave my first try, found 1, then 3, then 1, and then a Voltorb. My second try I got a Voltorb right off the bat and lost. The one good thing about the game was that it seemed I would only get coins, I wouldn't have to worry about actually putting money in for anything. My third try resulted in a lot of ones, a single 2, and then a Voltorb. Fourth try was a Voltorb right off the bat. I felt grateful after failing my fifth try that I didn't need to spend any money on this... Finally I managed to get 18 coins, and called it quits.

After I gave up, the man told me that the two gentlemen at the nearby table would give me prizes for my coins, the first offering an Abra, Sandshrew, and Dratini, while the other gave away TMs and Held Items for my Pokemon. I was disappointed to see Flamethrower on that list again, and I wondered just WHY everyone required such a useful and powerful move to be found only through the Game Corner.

I did more exploring and found the Johto-Kanto Magnet Train Line, stationed at the heart of Goldenrod. I went inside, and found a large room with pillars, and a large fancy clock near some chairs. I talked to the man at the gate, and he told me that the Magnet Train hadn't returned in a while. I wondered what the reason could be, and worried that perhaps something was happening over in Kanto...

I talked to a woman near the station, and she mentioned a man dressed as a Team Rocket member. I found him nearby, staring at the Goldenrod City Radio Tower. I confronted him, and he just told me to scram. I find myself quickly growing tired of these different gangs and the trouble I need to stop. I headed into the Radio Tower and talked with the people at the counter. One had a drawing for prizes depending on a Pokemon's Trainer number, which I lost, then I tried a quiz and failed the first time, then the second time, but third time was the charm, and I won a Radio Card which lets me listen to the radio with my Pokegear. I was encountered by a girl with pink hair nearby who was impressed by my win, and told me she thought the third answer was "Apricots" to which I had thought so too, the first time, before realizing after it was "Apricorns."

I went to the second floor of the Radio Tower and talked to more people, including Buena who ran a show called the "Password Show" and told me that she would give a new password each day, and if I came to her with the answer she would give me points on the Blue Card she handed over. With enough points I could get stuff from her assistant. I did more exploring on the second floor and found stairs to the third floor, but a security guard standing there told me only authorized personnel could go to the third floor. He explained that it wasn't that way before, that there was something wrong with the Director...

To the west I found the Global Terminal, filled with many types of Trainers. I found that the Global Terminal had three floors, the first for the GTS, the second for Dress-Up Data, and the third for Battle Video Gallery. I talked to people on the first floor, including one who let me set up a message for meeting people. I also registered my location on the globe on the GTS floor, and explored the second and third floor before I left. There is little I can do with the Global Terminal seeing as the old Wi-fi technology doesn't work with the new Wi-fi Network I have.

I went south and found the Goldenrod Bike Shop. I went inside, and was told by the owner that ever since he opened that branch, he hadn't been able to sell a single Bicycle. He offered to let me use one of his bikes as advertising, if I gave him my name and Pokegear Number. I gave him the information, and received a brand new Bicycle.

I did more exploring and found the colorful tent that held the Name Rater. I talked to him and renamed Elekid and Gastly. From now on, Elekid will be known as Edward, and Gastly will be known as Claire. With my whole team properly named, I left the tent, almost done with my exploration of Goldenrod City.

I found a couple houses around, in one of which lived the family of Bill, the man who invented the PC Storage System that holds all Pokemon. I also found a Flower Shop, and the owner told me of the odd tree on Route 36, that danced when watered. She told me that she would give me a Watering Can if I proved my strength by beating the Goldenrod Gym.

With all that out of the way, all that was left to do was to beat the Goldenrod Gym, and get my next Badge. I just hoped my training would be enough!

Pokemon SoulSilver - Through Ilex Forest to Goldenrod City

I grabbed my Heavy Balls from Kurt, and handed over 3 Grn Apricorns to be made into Pokeballs before I headed west toward Ilex Forest. Before I could start through the path, I met Aiden. He asked me if Team Rocket had returned, and when I told him they did, and I beat them, he didn't believe me. When I insisted it was the truth, he wanted to see how good I really was, and we fought.

Aiden sent out Gastly, and I sent out Seth. Gastly used Mean Look to keep Seth in the fight, but then Seth used Sleep Powder to put it to sleep. Gastly was asleep while Seth hit it with Bullet Seed for good damage. Gastly was withdrawn, and he sent out Bayleef against Seth, and it used Vine Whip for minor damage.

I sent out Lucas, and Bayleef used Synthesis to heal itself. Bayleef used Reflect to increase it's defense, and Lucas did what he could with Gust for damage, then Sand-Attack to lower it's accuracy, but Bayleef used Synthesis to recover from the damage, then it hit Lucas with Poison Powder to poison him, which caused good damage. Lucas used Gust again for great damage, and then Bayleef used Reflect to increase defense. Lucas hit it with Gust once more, only for it to recover from damage with Synthesis again.

I switched out to Samuel after Lucas took more damage from poison, and he hit Bayleef with Ember for great damage, then it missed it's Poison Powder counterattack. Samuel used Ember again for great damage, and Bayleef received a burn. Bayleef hit Samuel with Poison Powder, then both received damage from their status effects. Finally, Samuel hit Bayleef with Mach Punch to knock it out.

I sent out Elekid against his Zubat, and he hit it with Thunder Punch to knock it out in a single blow. I kept Elekid in the fight against his Gastly, and he hit it with Thunder Punch for massive damage to knock it out, and win the battle. My own Gastly grew to Level 16 with the Exp. Share giving it half the experience.

After the battle, Aiden told me how he hated the weak, both Pokemon and Trainers. He hates to see them hanging around, and that went for Team Rocket too. He told me how Team Rocket thought they were big and tough as long as they were in a group, but get them alone and they were actually weak. He had a great hatred for Team Rocket, though I couldn't understand what his particular grudge was against them. Aiden told me to stay out of his way, that I wouldn't be an exception if I got in his way.

I went back to heal my Pokemon, then I went onward toward Ilex Forest. When I got there, I found a man near the entrance, who told me his boss would be angry. He explained that the Farfetch'd that cut trees for charcoal ran off into the forest, and then asked me to catch them for him. I agreed, and went off to look for the rare Pokemon after being advised to sneak up behind them to catch them.

I found myself in an area with a Farfetch'd nearby, and I stepped on some branches, and the Farfetch'd turned toward the sound. I saw a path to sneak around behind it when it was distracted by the branches, and I grabbed it. I went back to the man, and he was grateful for my help, then told me there was one more missing. I went looking for the second Farfetch'd, hoping that I'd be able to find my own sooner or later.

I found a Revive as I went through the forest, then I spotted the next one. I moved around to find a branch to turn the Pokemon to one way, then I made my way around and tried to grab it from the side, but failed, and it ran off a short distance. It allowed me to make it focus on another direction, and I sneaked up behind it and caught it. When I returned the second Farfetch'd to the man, he thanked me again, and told me they wouldn't obey him because he didn't have a Badge. His boss came up, happy to see his Pokemon back, and he gave me HM01 (Cut) as a reward for my hard work.

I taught Seth Cut in place of Wrap, then I cut a nearby tree and went north. I found the Ilex Forest Shrine, which was a tribute to the forest's protector. I made my way through the forest, fighting wild Pokemon along the way. I grabbed an Antidote, X Attack, and Super Potion before I found a Kimono Girl, lost in the forest. I thought she was the one from Violet City, but told me she wasn't the same person. I wondered how many different Kimono Girls there were in this region, and how many more I would meet.

I offered to help her out of the forest, and when she asked if I was lost too, Lucas went over and hopped up and down, and led her out of the forest before returning to me for more adventuring. Lucas grew to Level 17 as we battled more wild Pokemon, and then I encountered a man who was headbutting trees. I asked him what he was doing, and he told me he was shaking trees using Headbutt. He told me it was fun, and that my Pokemon could do it too. I decided to teach Elekid to use Headbutt in place of Quick Attack.

I managed to find my way out of the forest, and I got TM12 (Taunt) from a woman with a Butterfree in the building leading to Route 34. Shortly after I got to Route 34, I fought against a Trainer. His Rattata went down quickly against Lucas' Gust, then Sandshrew was sent out, and another Gust attack did massive damage. Lucas hit it with Gust again to knock it out, then I sent out Elekid to fight his Spearow. Elekid hit Spearow with Thunder Punch to knock it out in a single blow, then Gastly grew to Level 17 thanks to Exp. Share. Another Spearow was sent out and Elekid took it down, and won the battle.

I came across another Trainer, who sent out Snubbull, and I sent out Lucas again. It's Intimidate cut Lucas' attack, then Lucas hit it with Gust for good damage before it used Tail Whip to lower his defense. This continued on, with Snubbull just reducing Lucas' stats while he kept up the attack with Tackle and Gust and soon knocked it out.

I sent out Gastly when the Trainer sent out Mareep. Gastly used Curse, cutting her health in half to plant a curse on it, then it used Growl to lower Gastly's attack before it was hurt by it's curse. Gastly missed with Hypnosis, and got hit by Thunder Shock for great damage, then curse did good damage. Gastly couldn't do much other than stall as Curse kept doing damage, and Mareep only lowered her stats in response. Gastly missed with Hypnosis, and Thunder Shock was used to knock her out, but then the curse knocked out Mareep and won the battle, though Gastly got no experience at all.

I used a Revive to bring back Gastly, and fought against another Trainer. His Mankey went down easily against Lucas, and so did his Diglett. I traded phone numbers with the boy before I continued on. I soon found myself in front of a house, and I heard Lyra shouting "Grandpa!" to the old man by the house before she came from up north. She thanked him for raising a Pokemon for her, and told him that it has been very healthy. Lyra noticed me and I went up to her and her grandfather. She introduced me to him, and mentioned to him how I seemed to be getting better at raising my Pokemon, but not quite as good as her grandfather.

Lyra told me to follow her, and I went into the house where I found her grandmother standing behind a counter. She introduced me to her grandmother, who thought I was Lyra's boyfriend. Lyra was quite embarrassed as she tried to clear things up, and her grandmother just laughed, telling her she was just teasing her. She mentioned how Lyra must be confident in my abilities to bring me here, and told me to come to them any time.

Lyra then left, but not before giving me her Pokegear number, and after she left I inquired about their services. It turned out to be the Johto Region Day-Care Center, and I pondered leaving a Pokemon there to be trained, but I knew all it would do for my Pokemon would be to raise their levels, not make them evolve. I left the building, and the old man offered to give me his phone number so I could check on any Pokemon the would raise for me.

I sneaked around a Trainer to grab TM63 (Embargo) from a field, then I battled him. His Psyduck went down easily against Lucas, and then we exchanged phone numbers. I immediately got a call from Mom, who informed me that she found a useful item at the Poke' Mart, and that she bought it with the money she was saving for me. She apologized, then told me she had it delivered to the nearest shop for me.

I soon made it into Goldenrod City, and healed my team at the Pokemon Center, before I headed back to Route 34 to train my Pokemon. While training, I caught a Drowzee (Psychic, Female, Lv. 12), Blake, Seth, Samuel, and Elekid all grew to Level 17, Lucas grew to Level 18 and evolved into Pidgeotto, and Gastly grew to Level 22 and learned Sucker Punch in place of Curse and Confuse Ray in place of Spite.

With my team all built up a bit, I felt like I was at a good place to continue with the next Gym. I knew I needed to get Gastly evolved into Haunter if I'm going to be able to really do anything with her, but right now she has some kind of attack and I'm happy about that.

Current Team:

Blake (Totodile, Water, Lv. 17)
Samuel (Monferno, Fire/Fighting, Lv. 17)
Seth (Bellsprout, Grass/Poison, Lv. 17)
Lucas (Pidgeotto, Normal/Flying, Lv. 18)
Elekid (Electric, Male, Lv. 17)
Gastly (Ghost/Poison, Female, Lv. 22)

Pokemon SoulSilver - Azalea Gym

While using the Pokewalker, I caught a Shelder (Water, Female, Lv. 12), Dratini (Dragon, Female, Lv. 10), a Poliwag (Water, Female, Lv. 15), Koffing (Poison, Female, Lv. 13), and Voltorb (Electric, Lv. 15), and I found a Star Piece, some Fresh Water, a Max Ether, an Elixir, a Great Ball, a Guard Spec, and TM11 (Sunny Day).

I decided to put Togepi in the PC and withdraw the Gastly (Ghost/Poison, Female, Lv. 15) I caught in the Pokewalker, because I know that Togepi evolves into a Normal/Flying-Type Pokemon, which I already have with Lucas. It's an interesting combination of Pokemon I've got now, and while I'm not thrilled to have a pair of Pokemon with partial Poison-Typing, at least I've got the major groups in my team.

My team consisted of:

Lucas (Pidgey, Normal/Flying, Lv. 14)
Samuel (Monferno, Fire/Fighting, Lv. 14)
Blake (Totodile, Water, Lv. 15)
Seth (Bellsprout, Grass/Poison, Lv. 14)
Elekid (Electric, Male, Lv. 13)
Gastly (Ghost/Poison, Female, Lv. 15)

When I went inside, I was told that the young Gym Leader made this Gym a nest of Bug-Type Pokemon. I wondered how young he could be, considering the average age of Gym Leaders I had fought in previous leagues was anywhere from 22-30 years old. I headed inside and got ready for a fight.

When I went inside, I found an odd area of trees and bushes, and three spider-like platforms on these cross-direction beams. I decided to go onto the middle platform, and it moved around, forward, left, right, forward, until I found myself at a small spot with a Trainer. He had a Caterpie that was knocked out in a short battle against Lucas, then Weedle was sent out. Weedle slowed Lucas down with String Shot, but a couple attacks with Gust took it out and won the battle.

I went back on the platform, and took the left platform and made it forward. I came across another Trainer, and I sent out Lucas against his Weedle. Lucas used Gust and knocked it out, then Kakuna was sent out. Lucas hit it with Gust for massive damage, and it used Harden to brace against the next attack. Lucas hit it with Tackle and knocked it out, and he grew to Level 15, then Beedrill was sent out. With just a couple attacks from Lucas and a missed Fury Attack, Beedrill was knocked out, and the battle was won.

The next part of the Gym had a platform section with a red beam and a blue beam, and red and blue switches nearby. I flipped the blue switch and went on the platform, and I was moved around to another Trainer. His Paras went down easily against Lucas, who grew to Level 16, and then I went back and flipped the switch before moving around again on the platform. I found myself against a pair of twin girls, and I got into a Double Battle with them using Lucas and Samuel. The twins were beaten easily, and Samuel grew to Level 15.

I flipped the blue switch by the twins, went on the platform, and then flipped the red switch, before I finally made my way on the platform to the Gym Leader, Bugsy. He told me he never loses with his Bug-Type Pokemon (a claim I'm sure was completely exaggerated...) and that he's aiming to be the leading authority on Bug Pokemon with his research. He turned out to be quite young, most likely only a teenager. I wondered what he did to earn the title of Gym Leader at his age?

Bugsy sent out Scyther, and I sent out Lucas. Scyther used Quick Attack for massive damage, and then Lucas countered with Gust for good damage. I saw how little Lucas was doing against it, and I switched to Samuel, who got hit by Quick Attack for great damage. Scyther used Focus Energy to get pumped up, then it got hit by Ember for good damage. Scyther used Quick Attack again for great damage, and then Samuel countered with Ember. Scyther healed itself with a berry, then struck with Quick Attack to knock out Samuel. I switched over to Lucas, and he got knocked out by Quick Attack.

With both Lucas and Samuel beaten, I was left with the rest of my team who were simply not strong against Bug-Type Pokemon. I switched to Blake, and Scyther used Quick Attack again for great damage, before Blake countered with Bite for good damage. Bugsy used a Super Potion to heal Scyther and then Blake used Scratch for minor damage. Scyther used U-Turn to knock out Blake and then was switched out to Metapod. I had to switch to Elekid, who used Thunder Punch for great damage, then Metapod countered with Tackle for good damage. Elekid hit it with Thunder Punch again for great damage, then it countered with Tackle. Elekid hit Metapod with Thunder Punch again to knock it out, and I finally made some progress as Elekid grew to Level 14.

Scyther was sent out again, and and it used Quick Attack for massive damage to knock out Elekid, and I switched out to Gastly. Scyther charged up with Focus Energy, then I had Gastly use Destiny Bond to trap it. Scyther used Leer to lower Gastly's defense, then she countered with Hypnosis to put it to sleep. With Scyther asleep, Claire was able to use Curse, halving her own health but giving constant damage to Scyther. Scyther remained asleep while Gastly attempted to use Hypnosis to keep it asleep for a couple turns, and Scyther kept taking damage from Curse. Scyther woke up after a couple turns and used U-Turn to do great damage, then it switched out with Kakuna.

Gastly used Hypnosis on Kakuna and it fell asleep, and while it was asleep I used Revive on Samuel. Kakuna stayed asleep, and I used a Potion on Samuel to heal him up. Gastly missed with Hypnosis, and then Kakuna woke and used Poison Sting which did minimal damage, and Gastly clung on. I switched over to Samuel, and he got hit by Poison Sting for minor damage. Samuel used Ember for massive damage, and Kakuna clung on to hit with Poison Sting for minor damage. Samuel used Rock Smash to knock it out, and then Scyther was sent out once again.

Scyther used Focus Energy to charge up, but Samuel hit it with Ember, and with so little health left it was knocked out, and Samuel grew all the way to Level 17! With Scyther knocked out, Bugsy was out of Pokemon, and I won the battle!

After the battle, Bugsy complimented me on my skill with Pokemon, and handed over the Hive Badge. With this new Badge, Pokemon up to Level 30 would obey me, and be able to use Cut outside of battle. Bugsy also handed over TM89 (U-Turn), which allows a Pokemon to land a powerful blow before being switched out that same turn with the next Pokemon.

I left the building, happy to have made it through another challenge, though I knew at that point I needed to train my team well if I wanted to get through the next Gym. I also realized that I would need to train Gastly with more offensive moves if I wanted to be able to do anything with it down the line, even if it's unusual attacks proved useful here.

After I healed my team, I decided to give Gastly an Exp. Share to hold onto, so that she would level up and hopefully learn an offensive move quickly. Gastly's only real attack currently is Curse, which does damage over time like Poison or Burn but which requires her to give up half her health. Until she gets a direct attack, I won't be able to do much with her in battle.

Current Team:

Seth (Bellsprout, Grass/Poison, Lv. 14)
Samuel (Monferno, Fire/Fighting, Lv. 17)
Blake (Totodile, Water, Lv. 15)
Lucas (Pidey, Normal/Flying, Lv. 16)
Elekid (Electric, Male, Lv. 14)
Gastly (Ghost/Poison, Female, Lv. 15)

Pokemon SoulSilver - Azalea Town

When I got to Azalea Town, I came across a couple people talking, two men, and one was wearing black. The one in black told the other that he was part of Team Rocket, and the other man thought they broke up a while ago. The Rocket member told him they hadn't broken up, though they did, but that they came back together. He told the first man to leave, then shoved the guy and stood guard at the path to a well.

Before going to take on that Team Rocket asshole, I decided to go ahead and get my team healed over at the Pokemon Center. While I was there, I was told by someone that the Apricorns I had been collecting were used to make Pokeballs, and that they were used to catch Pokemon before Pokeballs were mass-produced. I wondered what kind of Pokeballs I could get with these things when there's already such a large variety of Pokeballs available.

I headed back to Slowpoke Well, as it was called, and confronted the Rocket Grunt. He claimed that nothing was going on, that he was making sure no-one fell in. Unfortunately for me, he refused to fight or move, so I decided to explore the town. I found the man who was dealing with the Rocket Grunt, and he told me a tough guy named Kurt who lived in town should be able to handle this. I decided to go search for this Kurt and get his help.

I was able to find Kurt's house, and the sign described him as "The Stubborn Pokeball Creator." I assumed this meant he was the one to give Apricorns to. I went in and introduced myself, and he told me he couldn't make me any Pokeballs right now, because of the trouble in town. He told me about Team Rocket, about how they use Pokemon for their dirty work. He told me that they were supposed to have disbanded three years ago, and that they're cutting off Slowpoke tails for sale as a delicacy. Kurt told me he was going to go over there and give the Rocket Grunt a lesson in pain, and then he ran off.

I followed after Kurt, and when I got there I saw that the Rocket Grunt had left, so I went down into the well. I found Kurt at the bottom of the well, and he told me that the guard up top took off when he shouted at him, but then he fell down the well and hurt himself. He asked me to fight in his place, to teach Team Rocket a lesson, and I gladly ran ahead to fight them. I've taken down Team Aqua and Team Galactic with nothing but the strength of my Pokemon, and I don't think Team Rocket stands a better chance than they did!

I headed deeper into the well, and came across a Rocket Grunt. It appeared to be the same one who was guarding the well before. He sent out Rattata, and I sent out Samuel. Rattata used Quick Attack for good damage, then Samuel countered with Rock Smash for massive damage. Samuel hit it with Ember to knock it out, and then another Rattata was sent out. Samuel hit it with Rock Smash for massive damage, then it used Focus Energy to charge up, but it was knocked out by another Scratch, and Samuel grew to Level 13. The battle was won, and the pathetic Rocket Grunt could only watch as I went deeper inside to take out his friends.

I spotted another Rocket Grunt standing guard, and I sneaked up to her for a fight. She sent out Zubat, and I sent out Togepi against it. Togepi got hit by Leech Life for minor damage, then he countered with Extrasensory for massive damage. Zubat used Leech Life again for minor damage, then Togepi knocked it out with another Extrasensory attack. Togepi grew to Level 10, and learned Sweet Kiss in place of Growl. Ekans was sent out next, and it's Intimidate cut Togepi's attack, though with his focus on special attack it wasn't effective. Ekans used Wrap for minor damage, then Togepi countered with Extrasensory for great damage. Wrap did minor damage, then Ekans used Poison Sting for good damage, then Togepi countered with Extrasensory to knock it out and win the battle.

The Rocket Grunt told me that Slowpoke Tails grow back quickly, and that she had been ordered by someone named Proton. I grabbed a Super Potion and then headed forward to fight another Grunt, and his team went down quickly against Lucas, who grew to Level 14. This Rocket Grunt seemed to be uneasy about selling Slowpoke Tails, but then again he chose to be with them. I checked on a couple Slowpoke who had their tails cut off, and one had a letter with it, which read "Be good and look after the house with Grandpa and Slowpoke. Love, Dad." I felt sorry for these poor Pokemon being abused by both Team Rocket, AND the people who actually ate their tails.

I confronted the Rocket Executive, Proton, who claimed to be labeled the scariest and cruelest guy in Team Rocket. Proton sent out Zubat, and I sent out Samuel against it. Samuel used Ember for great damage, and Zubat's Supersonic missed. Samuel used Ember again and knocked it out, then Koffing was sent out. Samuel used Ember for good damage, and it's counter attack missed. Samuel used Ember again for good damage, then Koffing used Tackle for good damage. Proton taunted me, asking if I thought I could really interfere with their plans, and I simply flipped him off before ordering Samuel to use Ember again for good damage, and then he got hit by Smog for good damage. Samuel and Koffing exchanged blows for good damage, then Samuel Scratched it and knocked it out, and with the battle over he grew to Level 14.

Right after the battle, Samuel evolved into Monferno, and learned Mach Punch in place of Scratch. Proton told me that Team Rocket was indeed broken up three years ago, but that they continued their activities underground. He said a "small obstacle" like me wouldn't be a problem for their mission, but he had no idea the strength my team and I possessed!

After Proton left, Kurt came up from behind and congratulated me. He told me that Team Rocket had taken off, and that his back was better after the fall. We left and went back to his place, where he told me that Team Rocket had been disbanded by a boy named Red, but now that they came back he had a bad feeling about things. He told me he'd be happy to make Pokeballs for me, and gave me a Fast Ball.

Kurt noticed that I had Apricorns, and told me he would turn them into Pokeballs. I handed over my 4 Blk Apricorns and he told me it would take a day to make the Pokeballs. His granddaughter gave me his number to contact Kurt and learn more about Apricorns later. I was happy to see that her Slowpoke was back too, and it's tail had grown back already!

Having foiled Team Rocket's schemes for now, I could once again focus on going through the Johto League. Azalea Town held the next Gym, and I knew my team was definitely up to the task of getting another Badge!

Current Team:

Samuel (Monferno, Fire/Fighting, Lv. 14)
Lucas (Pidgey, Normal/Flying, Lv. 14)
Blake (Totodile, Water, Lv. 15)
Seth (Bellsprout, Grass/Poison, Lv. 14)
Togepi (Normal, Male, Lv. 10)
Elekid (Electric, Male, Lv. 13)

Pokemon SoulSilver - Union Cave

While using the Pokewalker, I got 2 Zubat (Poison/Flying, Male, Lv. 8), a Ghastly (Ghost/Poison, Female, Lv. 15), and 4 Sitrus Berries.

I made my way into Union Cave, a cavern filled with dark rocks and winding hallways. I knew with the amount of Rock-Type Pokemon around that it would be great for training Seth. I came across a Hiker who wanted to fight, and I sent out Seth against his Onix. Onix used Harden, then Seth hit it with Vine Whip for great damage. Onix used Harden again, then Seth used Bullet Seed for great damage. Onix used Bind next for good damage, but then Seth knocked it out with another Vine Whip. Seth grew to Level 12, and the battle was won.

I came across another Hiker and he also wanted a fight, so I obliged. He sent out Geodude, and I sent out Seth. Seth used Vine Whip to knock it out instantly, and then another Geodude was sent out who also went down to Vine Whip. A third Geodude was sent out, and Seth used Bullet Seed to knock it out in two hits. Seth grew to Level 13, and learned Sleep Powder in place of Growth, and the battle was won.

I fought against a few wild Pokemon as I made my way further south in the cave, and I came across another Trainer. His two Pokemon, a pair of Koffing, went down easily, and Seth grew to Level 14 while Togepi grew to Level 9. I switched Blake to walk beside me and continued on in the cave. I fought against more wild Pokemon, and Blake grew to Level 12 and learned Bite in place of Rage. I came across another Trainer and beat him quickly with Blake. After the battle, the Trainer told me that every Friday, roars from a Pokemon could be heard from deep within the cave. I could only imagine what could be in Union Cave...

I fought against some wild Pokemon, and Blake grew to Level 14. I found the exit and left the cave soon after that, out to Route 33 and lots of rain. I came across another couple Apricorn Trees and got a Pnk Apricorn and Blk Apricorn, then I came across another Trainer. The Hiker's Pokemon both went down easily against Blake, who grew to Level 15, and then I continued on my way. I caught a Spearow (Normal/Flying, Female, Lv. 6) while heading west, and soon I came across Azalea Town.

With Union Cave behind me, I hope to make progress towards my next Gym Badge soon!

Current Team:

Samuel (Chimchar, Fire, Lv. 11)
Blake (Totodile, Water, Lv. 15)
Lucas (Pidgey, Normal/Flying, Lv. 13)
Togepi (Normal, Male, Lv. 9)
Elekid (Electric, Male, Lv. 13)
Seth (Bellsprout, Grass/Poison, Lv. 14)
