Pokemon Pearl - Eterna Forest

I got my Pokemon healed up, then started on my way north to Eterna City. The path to the city, however, goes through many Trainers and Eterna Forest. The path north even before the forest was filled with many Trainers, all itching for a fight. In the several battles I went through, Maria, Maximus, Alexander, and Marcus all grew to Level 16. Before I made it to the forest, I went into a small house owned by a family that was kind enough to let my Pokemon and I rest there for a bit and heal up.

I got to the edge of Eternia Forest, and met a Trainer named Cheryl; she was worried about trying to get through the forest alone, and asked me to come with her to help her to Eterna City. I agreed to help her, and in return she would keep our Pokemon healthy; thus we went into the forest. Our journey through the forest started with a Double Battle (two Pokemon against two Pokemon) against wild Pokemon, and I sent out Annabelle, while Cheryl sent out a Chansey. We came out of the battle victorious, and Annabelle grew to Level 17. We soon came across a pair of Trainers who wanted to fight, and I sent out Marcus, who grew to Level 17 upon victory. Continuing on our way we encountered a pair of Psychic Trainers in another Double Battle, I sent out Maria, and she grew to Level 17.

Decided to go into the grass to find wild Pokemon, and we encountered a Buneary and Wurmple. In the wild battle, I tried sending out a Pokeball to catch the Buneary, but apparently in a Double Battle with wild Pokemon, the Trainer goes stupid about just aiming for one Pokemon or the other. Going through the grass again, we got into another Double Battle against wild Pokemon and Alexander grew to Level 17. Further along the path, we came across a pair of Bug Trainers with quite a few Pokemon, and I sent out Maximus; after a lengthy Double Battle he grew all the way to Level 18, and learned the move Spark.

We fought again, as we continued down the path, against a pair of Psychic Trainers, and Annabelle grew to Level 18, and Evolved into a Grotle! We went through more grass, and went into another Double Battle against wild Pokemon, and I managed to catch a Buneary (Normal, Male, Lv. 10) in the process. We finally made it out of Eterna Forest, and Cheryl thanked me for my help and went on her way. It was just a little ways left to Eterna City, and it was past a bunch of Fishermen hard at work for the perfect catch; I wasn't about to disturb them for battles unless I needed to!

I made it into Eterna City and put away the Buneary I caught, and while I was in the Pokemon Center I was given a Poketch App called the Friendship Checker. I went through the city a little ways, and I was given HM01 (Cut) by a stranger, and a TM67 (Recycle) by an old woman. I went into one house, owned by the Underground Man, who gave me an Explorer Kit to go journey into the Underground. I admit I can't wait to get down there and start a secret base!

After exploring the city, I went into tall grass outside the forest to catch another Buizel to give to a little boy who wanted one in exchange for a Chatot named Charap (Normal/Flying, Female, Lv. 11). After the trade, I went back into the forest at night to catch a Misdreavus (Ghost, Male, Lv. 10), and also managed to catch a Cascoon (Bug, Male, Lv. 10)! I headed back to the city to heal my Pokemon.

Eterna City seems like a nice place, it's apparently a very old city dedicated to ancient Pokemon. About the only problem with the city is the fact that the place has become the headquarters of Team Galactic, or at least has a major base there. I had one of the Galactic assholes try to demand my Pokemon, until he realized how strong I am and backed off. A few of the citizens have said that their Pokemon have been kidnapped by Team Galactic for some sinister purpose, and after I'm done at the Gym I'm going to have to take their operation in Eterna City down.

Current Team:

Alexander (Machop, Fighting, Lv. 17)
Maria (Shellos, Water, Lv. 17)
Annabelle (Grotle, Grass, Lv. 18)
Marcus (Staravia, Normal/Flying, Lv. 17)
Maximus (Luxio, Electric, Lv. 18)

Pokemon Pearl - Valley Windworks

A little girl on the path to the Valley Windworks was crying, telling me that those Team Galactic fucks were holding her father in there, and asked me to rescue him. Before I went to save him, I trained my Pokemon in the bushes, mainly for Maria, but the others gained experience too. During my training, Maximus grew strong, and evolved into Luxio!

I went to the Valley Windworks after healing my team at the Pokemon Center, and I fought against the Grunt at the door. He sent out a Cascoon, and I brought out Marcus, one Wing Attack and his Pokemon was down. He taunted me after he lost, saying he wouldn't let me in, and the only other person with a key was elsewhere. Unfortunately for him, I got the other key from the pair of Grunts from before. I barged on through, he realized he's still a loser, and ran to warn his boss.

I took out a couple more Grunts in the building before reaching their leader, Commander Mars. She brought out Zubat, and I sent out Maria. Maria took a couple hits from Leech Life, but attacked with Water Pulse, and soon defeated the Zubat and grew to Level 15. Commander Mars then sent out Purugly and I sent out Annabelle. She started out with Fake Out, which made Annabelle flinch, and then Faint Attack. Annabelle suffered some pain, returned it with Razor Leaf, and then got down to low health with Scratch. I switched to Marcus after I realized that Annabelle wasn't going to do enough against the Purugly, and his Intimidate ability halved her Pokemon's attack. I then had Marcus do a couple Wing Attacks, which did good damage but couldn't quite knock it out. I finished off the Purugly with a Quick Attack, and Annabelle grew to Level 16.

Their plans done and their Pokemon beaten, the Team Galactic assholes ran off, leaving the now-free scientist and myself alone. The scientist's daughter came right after, grateful to me for saving her father. According to the scientist, Team Galactic was trying to use the Valley Windworks for something, talking about having to gather Pokemon and energy no matter what, and they claimed it was to create a new universe.

I can't wait to take these guys down.

Current Team:

Maria (Shellos, Water, Lv. 15)
Maximus (Luxio, Electric, Lv. 15)
Annabelle (Turtwig, Grass, Lv. 16)
Alexander (Machop, Fighting, Lv. 15)
Marcus (Staravia, Normal/Flying, Lv. 15)

Pokemon Pearl - Journey to Floaroma Town

I went back to Jubilife City again, but not before exploring the cave below Oreburgh Gate, and getting myself TM70 (Flash) and some Stardust to sell. I got back to Jubilife City and went to the Pokemon Center, before going straight for the Poketch Company for a new App, the Memo Pad, and then I went to visit the TV Station. Got into a battle with one irritating trainer with high-level Zubats, but I managed to put him down, even with type-match difficulties.

I healed my Pokemon at the Center again before going north, finding a couple Team Galactic assholes threatening to hurt Dawn if Professor Rowan didn't hand over his research. Dawn and I teamed up against them in my first Double Battle. Dawn sent out Piplup against the pair of Grunts, and I sent out Marcus. The Team Galactic assholes sent out Wurmple and Zubat, and I had Marcus knock out the first with a Wing Attack, while the Zubat took some damage from a Bubble attack. For Marcus' victory over the Wurmple, he grew to Level 13. Another Quick Attack from Marcus and a Bubble attack from Piplup took out the Zubat, and then the two Grunts ran off.

I started North after healing my Pokemon again, Heading up Route 204 and encountering a few more Trainers who were itching for a fight. I went up through the Ravaged Path, getting TM39 (Rock Tomb) and fought another Trainer just north of the Path to grow Maximus to Level 14. I went through another battle with a Bug-type Trainer, and Marcus took them out easily. I went into another Trainer battle against a pair of sisters, and Marcus grew to Level 14, then evolved into Staravia! I also found TM09 (Bullet Seed), and grew Alexander to Level 14 before I finally got to Floaroma Town.

When I got to the town, I found out that it was also besieged by these damned Team Galactic fuck-ups, and I went to fight some of them. Up north, I found a couple in a meadow needing their asses kicked. I took them both out, they were quite simple to beat down, then I received a key for the Valley Windworks. I went east to see the Windworks, but decided to go through the grass and catch some new Pokemon. I caught myself a Buizel (Water, Female, Lv. 9), a Pachirisu (Electric, Male, Lv. 7), and I also caught a Shellos (Water, Female, Lv. 7) I decided to name Maria. I put away Abra and Kricketot and use Shellos for my Water type, knowing she'll evolve to a Water/Ground type soon enough.

Going to need to train her to Level 14 or 15 before I start on the Valley Windworks and clear it of the Galactic scumbags.

Current Team:

Maria (Shellos, Water, Lv. 7)
Maximus (Shinx, Electric, Lv. 14)
Annabelle (Turtwig, Grass, Lv. 15)
Marcus (Staravia, Normal/Flying, Lv. 14)
Alexander (Machop, Fighting, Lv. 14)

Pokemon Pearl - Oreburgh Gym

After doing some training, growing my Pokemon up, especially Alexander, I found Roark, the Gym Leader, in the mines, and found a couple items while I was there. He went back to the Gym, and I healed up my Pokemon before going in.

My team consisted of:

Annabelle (Turtwig, Grass, Lv. 13)
Marcus (Starly, Normal/Flying, Lv. 12)
Kricketot (Bug, Lv.9)
Maximus (Shinx, Electric, Lv. 11)
Abra (Psychic, Lv. 5)
Alexander (Machop, Fighting, Lv. 12)

Roark sent out Geodude first, and I responded with Annabelle. I had her use her new attack, Razor Leaf, and the Quick Claw she was holding pushed her to attack first. Just one single attack knocked it out, and Annabelle grew to Level 14.

Next up Roark sent out Onyx, and I sent out Alexander to fight it. Knowing how big and heavy Onyx is, I decided to attack with Low Kick (which does more damage the heavier the opponent is) and brought it down to the red. Roark used a potion to heal Onyx, and I had Alexander Karate Chop it back down to red. Onyx used Screech, and then Alexander used Rock Smash to knock it out and grew to Level 13.

Finally Roark sent out Cranidos, an ancient Dinosaur Pokemon, and I sent Annabelle out against it. Cranidos used Pursuit for some good damage, then Annabelle used Razor Leaf for massive damage. Cranidos followed up with Leer, and then got hit with Absorb for the knock out and the Coal Badge.

It's funny, Roark was a bit of an asshole at the end, saying he couldn't believe he lost to a Trainer who didn't have one badge; HE'S the guy you go to for your first fucking badge! I just took the $900 he gave me and left. Gonna have to head back to Jubilife City to get the Poketch App from the CEO.

Current Team:

Annabelle (Turtwig, Grass, Lv. 14)
Marcus (Starly, Normal/Flying, Lv. 12)
Kricketot (Bug, Lv.9)
Maximus (Shinx, Electric, Lv. 11)
Abra (Psychic, Lv. 5)
Alexander (Machop, Fighting, Lv. 13)

Pokemon Pearl - Making Progress

I've trained Annabelle, Marcus, and Maximus all to Level 9, and I've also caught a Kricketot for my collection while level grinding last night. Annabelle learned Absorb, Maximus learned Charge, and Marcus learned Quick Attack AND Wing Attack.

On Route 202 I fought a Trainer, Natalie, beat her two Bidoofs with Annabelle but came up just short of Level 10 on experience, and I got about $50 for my effort. Fortunately, one wild Pokemon battle soon after got Annabelle to Level 10. Fought another Trainer on Route 202, named Logan, who sent out a Shinx. I sent out Marcus to battle it, and just a couple attacks later I had victory and $80.

I reached Jubilife City, the "City of Joy" as the sign said. Dawn met me at the entrance of the city and told me that Simon was at the Trainer's School, to which I can only hope they're teaching him to slow the fuck down. I'm probably gonna get knocked over by him this time too, like EVERY other time I've seen him so far.

Before I decided to talk with him, seeing him reading the topics on the board, I went to talk to everyone else in the room first, and found a couple Trainers in a side-room, a gymnasium-like room where I was asked to battle. I was glad to have someone ASK to battle, and not just be "I saw you, we gotta battle now!" I fought Christine, who had an Abra. Marcus took it out in one shot with Wing Attack, and grew to Level 10. I also fought Harrison, he also had an Abra. I sent out Marcus first, then switched to Maximus so he could get experience. After the battle, I got TM10 (Hidden Power).

I went up to Simon, and surprisingly enough he was still engrossed in the information on the blackboard. I gave him the parcel, which held two region maps; I received one of them, and then he left quite calmly. I wonder if maybe his short time with Pokemon is already making him slow down and enjoy life?

I left the Trainer School and bumped into a guy telling me about his brand of Poketech, called a Pokemon Watch, or Poketch for short. He said I have to go around and find three clowns around the city, answer their questions, and then come back to him. The clowns all asked about the capabilities of Pokemon, obviously a way to teach new players about their abilities. It's funny, from what I can see on the Poketch now that I've got it, it's obviously a Smart Watch, and with Diamond/Pearl being released in 2007 people wouldn't think about such things for a few years yet. You wouldn't think a POKEMON game of all things would be forward-thinking.

I went ahead and explored more of the city, getting myself a Quick Claw to give to Annabelle and an Old Rod to fish with. After that, I went east, following after Simon who apparently ran to the next town (guess I was too hasty in my belief of him slowing down). I quickly met up with him on Route 203, where he wanted to battle me. Simon started by sending out a Starly, met by Marcus, but I switched over to Maximus to get him more experience. Maximus' first Tackle did some damage, and his second one did critical damage to knock out the Starly. Simon sent out his Chimchar, and I kept Maximus in the fight for a couple turns. Maximus gave a couple Tackles, but unfortunately those attacks didn't do much, and he was injured. I switched out for Marcus, and a Wing Attack did a lot of damage to Chimchar. Simon thought it might be a close battle, and was completely wrong when a Quick Attack knocked out his Pokemon. Maximus grew to Level 10, and I got $900 for the effort.

I did some training on Route 203, growing my Kricketot up in case I need him to fight, but I'd rather get him switched out for another Pokemon. While training, I was surprised to come across an Abra. I had Kricketot first out for training, and knew even while I switched over to Marcus that I couldn't get it before it Teleported out. I came across another Abra, and this time decided to toss a Pokeball on the off-chance I could catch it, and unfortunately I failed. I came across another Abra (Psychic, Male, LV. 5), deciding I may as well try again, and threw another Pokeball, and this time I caught it. I haven't figured out a name for him yet though.

I went through Route 203, defeated several Trainers, and received HM06 (Rock Smash) as I went through the cave to Oreburgh City, the "City of Energy" according to the sign. I met with Simon at the Gym, and was told that he's got a badge, AND that the Gym Leader left the Gym to go into the Oreburgh Mine. I went exploring through the city before I headed into the mine, got myself a Pal Pad, learned about coal from the Oreburgh Mining Museum, and caught myself a tough Machop (Fighting, male, Lv. 5) that took 3 Pokeballs and finally a Dusk Ball to catch! I decided to name him Alexander.

I decided to go ahead and spend some time training my Pokemon, Alexander specifically.

Current Team:

Annabelle (Turtwig, Grass, Lv. 12)
Maximus (Shinx, Electric, Lv. 11)
Kricketot (Bug, Lv. 9)
Marcus (Starly, Normal/Flying, Lv. 11)
Abra (Psychic, Lv. 5)
Alexander (Machop, Fighting, Lv. 5)

Pokemon Pearl - Getting Started

Started out naming my character, named my "best friend" Simon (though I find his headstrong rush into anything and everything to be annoying, especially as that everything included ME on a few occasions thus far) went to Lake Verity to find a Red Gyarados (shout-out to Gold and Silver, correct?) and only found trouble with a wild Starly.

I chose Turtwig (Grass, female, Lv. 5) and fought it off with a few Tackles. Simon said that we needed to give back the Pokemon we had taken from the old man's suitcase, and before we could do anything Dawn came by and grabbed the suitcase, worried about us having taken the Pokemon. We went ahead and met up with the professor and Dawn on the way back to town, and were told to meet them at the lab in Sandgem Town.

I went back home to Twinleaf Town, rested up, then headed over to Sandgem Town. I went to the lab and received my Pokedex, and named my Turtwig Annabelle. I admit I was surprised that I received a female starter; I figured they'd only be males to keep people from breeding starters, assuming of course the child takes after the mother. I'll need to know more about breeding going into X and Y, I think, especially if I can offer Turtwigs for other starter Pokemon I'm missing from my collection.

Dawn gave me the obligatory Pokemon Center and Poke' Mart explanations, and I went ahead and bought 3 Pokeballs while I was there, thinking maybe I wasn't going to be getting any Pokeballs from her after she just left. I went back home, got into a couple battles on the way and built Annabelle to Level 7, then when I got home we rested up, talked to Mom about my decision to go adventuring, got some Running Shoes as a gift, then received a package from Simon's mom that needed to be brought to him (sounded like he was too busy rushing to pack and get started to tell his mother much of anything or to hold a conversation) and I headed out on my adventure.

I went down Route 201 and caught a Starly (Normal/Flying, Male, Lv. 2) after a short battle, and named him Marcus. I then continued on towards the next town, meeting up with Dawn, who showed me (belatedly) how to capture Pokemon, THEN proceeded to give me 5 Pokeballs. I felt foolish spending the money on Pokeballs at the Sandgem Poke' Mart, but I know I'll be using them soon enough anyway. I went into the tall grass down Route 202 towards the next town, found a Shinx (Electric, Male, Lv. 3) and sent out Marcus, but switched out to Annabelle because Marcus seemed too weak to do much. I caught the Shinx and named him Maximus.

While traveling through Route 202, I came upon another Trainer, Tristan, who proceeded to challenge me, claiming our eyes met and thus we must battle (even though I wasn't even looking at the fucker). He sent out a Level 5 Starly, and I sent out Marcus. Marcus unfortunately got badly hurt with just one attack, and I sent out Annabelle after, though she had received some injuries from wild Pokemon battling in the bushes before. She missed a couple Tackles, got banged up, and I used a Potion to bring her health back up. After a few more Tackles I defeated him, and Marcus grew to Level 3, and Annabelle grew to Level 7. Got chump change from beating him after all the trouble, not even enough to make up for the Potion I had to use...

I think I'm going to spend a while longer on Route 202 to train my Pokemon and get them to about Level 10. Marcus isn't going to be much use until at least Level 5, and I don't think Maximus will be either. I need them to be at some kind of fighting strength before I get to the next town.

Current Team:

Annabelle (Turtwig, Grass, Lv. 7)
Marcus (Starly, Normal/Flying, Lv. 4)
Maximus (Shinx, Electric, Lv. 3)

Pokemon Sapphire - Finished

I've caught just about all the Pokemon I can from Sapphire, gotten ALL the Legendary Pokemon, and I've got the HMs removed from my various Pokemon, with a new, albeit weaker team set up in case I need to go back.

Pokemon Seen: 166
Pokemon Owned: 106 (including evolutions)
Time Spent: 97 Hours, 32 Minutes

Going to take a day or so to relax, before I start on Pokemon Pearl. I hope it doesn't take quite as long as Sapphire did!

Pokemon Sapphire - Catching Latias and Rayquaza

I went into this knowing that it was going to be hard, getting all these Legendary Pokemon. I knew that Latias and Rayquaza would be especially difficult, the former for her wandering and escape tendencies, the latter for it's sheer strength and high level.

I found Latias after about an hour of searching some bushes near one of the bike route buildings, and then got to work tracking her while figuring out how to keep her from running. My first encounter with Latias I used Wobbuffet (Psychic, Lv. 26), a defensive-type Pokemon, with the ability Shadow Tag to stop her from running. Wobbuffet has NO offensive capabilities in the normal sense; the two attacks it can perform require the enemy to attack first, either with a physical attack for the one or a special attack for the other.

For whatever reason, Latias refused to do any attacks, only using defensive moves, and because of that I couldn't counterattack. I was forced to grab Abel (Gardevoir, Psychic, Lv. 52), and managed to put Latias to sleep with Hypnosis before she somehow ran away. At this point I knew I needed to get a Pokemon that could stop others from running, keep her there to take some punishment and stick around for more than one Ultra Ball. I decided to go and grab a Golbat (Poison/Flying, Lv. 42) I caught in the caves of Victory Road and have it use Mean Look, a move that prevents escape.

I encountered Latias again, found it still sleeping from before, and happily realized that anything I do to it is persistent. I had Golbat use Mean Look, then went on the attack with Wing Attack and Air Cutter to push Latias' health into the yellow. Unfortunately, Golbat went ahead and got knocked out after a few unsuccessful tries with Ultra Balls, and I sent out Spike (Roselia, Grass/Poison, Lv. 46) to use Grass Whistle to put Latias to sleep before she ran.

I went ahead and decided that as low on health as Latias was, I should go ahead and try using Wobbuffet again to fight her if she was going to stay defensive with him. Unfortunately, she decided to attack him and put him down rather easily, even though I didn't want at all to do further damage as I got her health in the red. After a couple more encounters with her, having no luck with Ultra Balls, I decided to just go ahead and use my Master Ball to capture her.

Next up, and last on my list, was Rayquaza, the Pokemon I had hoped to use my Master Ball on, and part of the Weather trio of Legendary Pokemon. I had to get through the Sky Pillar, a tower with a few floors that need to be navigated via Mach Bike, to get to the top and fight Rayquaza. It took me a little bit to figure out the layout, and where/when to turn, but I got through it easily enough, easier than I thought I would especially with Max Repels.

I went through and fought against Rayquaza, knowing I was in for a tough fight, but I had supplies remaining from the Elite Four fight. I brought out Crimson (Blaziken, Fire/Fighting, Lv. 53) to fight it, and found that Fire and Fighting attacks didn't do much, but fortunately Slash did some decent damage. I was doing good on damage until Rayquaza went ahead and used Rest, which put it to sleep for a few turns but ALSO went ahead and healed it fully the first turn. Rayquaza woke up after a few turns and knocked out Red, and so the pattern of Rest, attack, switching went for a few Pokemon, and finally it got confused using Outrage while in the red and knocked itself out.

- - -

Restarting from my saved point from before the battle, I pondered going ahead and leveling my Pokemon up, but I knew it'd take hours more gameplay to get them to even level 60. I decided to just try again, starting out with my Gyarados (Water/Flying, Lv.40) to cut Rayquaza's attack in half with her ability Intimidate, then I switched to Aeris (Pelipper, Flying/Water, Lv. 51) and had her use Ice Beam to do some serious damage to it. After a bit, I decided to pull out Bolt (Magneton, Electric/Steel, Lv. 52), and use it's Steel defense to stand against Rayquaza's attacks.

It dawned on me that Bolt has a couple attacks that could really help me catch Rayquaza, Flash to lower accuracy and Thunder Wave to cause paralysis. I had Bolt go ahead and use Flash a few times to lower Rayquaza's accuracy to the point where it could hardly land a hit, and then paralysis prevented even more attacks from going through. I was able to stop it from using Rest with the paralysis, and the attacks it used kept missing. I went ahead and used quite a few Ultra Balls, around 20, and probably 5 Timer Balls before the latter finally caught it.

I've got all the Legendary Pokemon in Sapphire now, and I'm going to have to go through and wipe the HMs off my team so I can transfer them all forward to Pearl, as well as set up a new team of evolved Pokemon with HMs so if I ever need to go back, I'll have a decent little group. I'll make a final post about my time and Pokedex counts before moving on to Pearl.

Pokemon Sapphire - Catching the Legendary Golems

Today I started working toward catching all the rest of the Legendary Pokemon in Sapphire. My efforts started with getting to the Secret Chamber and unlocking the path to all three golems. To get to the Secret Chamber to begin with, you have to have Relicanth, Wailord, AND Pokemon that know Surf, Dive, and Dig. After you have all that, you've gotta travel through strong currents, going through a specific way to find a small spot you can dive down to, and then climb back up at the end of a tunnel to the Chamber.

When you get there, there's a lot of Braille on these huge rock walls, I think the alphabet, so you can translate the text on the walls in the next room. When you've read through the text (just pressed A on each one) there will suddenly be a small earthquake, and doors open to three oddly shaped stone structures. When that's all done, it's just a matter of entering each chamber, performing the necessary task to open the door to the Golem's chamber, then going up to it and starting the battle.

The first of the Legendary Golems I fought was Regirock, the Rock Golem, in the desert area along Route 111. My Pokemon are all leveled above the Golems, so I made sure to save before the fight in case I knocked it out. I made sure to have a bunch of Ultra Balls and some Timer Balls too, knowing that Ultras aren't going to be enough.

I went in there, started the battle, and sent out Abel (Gardevoir, Psychic, Lv. 51) to fight it. Regirock was pretty tough, but a Psychic attack and a Confusion attack got it down low on health. I then had him use Hypnosis to put it to sleep, and then I started on the Ultra Balls. Of course, even with low health and asleep, those Ultra Balls didn't do much; a few times, it'd shake a couple times before popping open, other times it'd break open after one, and once it shook three times before failing.

Regirock woke up, and attacked with Ancient Power, and built itself up with Curse. I put it to sleep with Hypnosis again, then went through and used a few more Ultra Balls before I started on Timer Balls. It woke up again and then attacked, and Abel got knocked out. I switched over to Spike (Roselia, Grass/Poison, Lv. 46), and had him use Grasswhistle to put Regirock to sleep again. I used a few more Timer Balls, and finally got the capture.

Second one I went for was Registeel. I sent out Crimson (Blaziken, Fire/Fighting, Lv. 52) to use a Blaze Kick and get Registeel right down into the red in one blow, then I sent out Abel to use Hypnosis and put it to sleep. I went ahead and threw a few Ultra Balls, unsuccessfully, had to use Hypnosis again, then used a few more Ultra Balls, then Hypnosis, then more Ultra Balls, then some Timer Balls... I used up a lot of Poke' Balls, and decided to do a reset because it's far too expensive to buy so many more for the last one. I started out as before, sent out Crimson with Blaze Kick and then Able with Hypnosis, and just a few Ultra Balls were able to get me the capture.

Third and last was Regice, and it was pretty easy to capture as well, but I started out worried I wouldn't be able to capture it at all. The way to open the door to the inner chamber is to read the Braille, and then wait two minutes without touching the game; my internal clock battery on the cartridge died a while ago, so I was worried I might not be able to open the door. Fortunately, the game knows how long I play, so the door opened as expected.

I went in there, brought Regice down to the red, had Abel use Hypnosis to put it to sleep, and then just six or seven Ultra Balls and I got it done.

Now it's just time to find Latias and Rayquaza.

Pokemon Sapphire - Champion of the Hoenn Region

After building my team up to level 51, I was able to finally get through the Elite Four and the Champion. It took a lot of time and effort to build my Pokemon up to that level, especially of my Absol which I had to bring from Level 26 all the way to Level 47 to match the rest.

My team consisted of:

Blaziken, named Crimson (Fire/Fighting, Lv. 51)
Absol, named Shade (Dark, Lv. 51)
Hariyama, named Ryu (Fighting, Lv. 51)
Gardevoir, named Abel (Psychic, Lv. 51)
Magneton, named Bolt (Steel/Electric, Lv. 51)
Pelipper, named Aeris (Water/Flying, Lv. 51)

So, first up was Sidney, the Dark-type specialist. I started out with Shade, to take the attack decrease caused by the Mightyena's Intimidate. I then switched out to Ryu and used Vital Throw to take it down. After that, he threw out Shiftry, to which I responded with Crimson, and one good Blaze Kick took it out. Next up was Absol, which I switched out for Ryu again, and another Vital Throw took it down. Then there was Cacturne, which was met and brought down by Crimson with a powerful Blaze Kick. Finally he pulled out Sharpedo, which I had Bolt take on and bring down with a Thunderbolt.

- - - - -

Moving up to Phoebe, the Ghost-type specialist, Shade was my best bet against her. She pulled out Dusclops, and I had Shade give a couple Bites to do heavy damage. She had Dusclops use Curse to do status damage to Shade, but by doing so knocked it out in the process. Shade managed to knock out her first Banette with Bite, and I had to heal him up to continue through the second Banette. I went ahead and switched out for Aeris when Sableye was brought out, knowing that it has no weaknesses, and her Water Pulse and Ice Beam did the trick. With the last Dusclops, I went ahead and brought out Shade again, a couple Bites did damage, but he was knocked out, and I pulled out Crimson to finish it off with a Blaze Kick.

After reviving and healing my team, I moved on to number three, Glacia the Ice-type specialist. Crimson brought down Glalie with a good Blaze Kick, then when Sealeo was brought out I switched to Bolt, and it's Thunderbolt attack took out both Sealeos with ease. Then Walrein was brought out and I kept up with Bolt, striking down Walrein in just a couple attacks. When another Glalie was brought out I pulled Crimson out again to finish it off with Blaze Kick.

The fourth of the Elite Four, Dragon-type specialist Drake, was a bit of a challenge. I had Abel come out first, thinking that his high special defense would prove useful against the powerful Dragon-type attacks. Shelgon was brought out, and Abel's Psychic attack did quite a bit of damage, but Drake used a Full Restore to get it back up to full health. I used Psychic again, then Confusion, and brought it down. Next was Altaria, and while Abel had received some damage he was good to fight it with Psychic and Confusion. I pulled out Aeris to fight against both his Flygons, using Wing Attack and Water Pulse to capitalize on Ground's weakness to Flying and Water attacks. Finally Drake brought out Salamence, and I brought out Bolt to go and strike it down with Thunderbolt.

With the Elite Four defeated, I had to fight against Steven, the Champion, and frankly I don't understand why I had to fight him at all if I had the Elite Four beaten already.

Steven turned out to be the most difficult because he had several Pokemon I didn't know how to counter. I brought out Bolt to fight against his Skarmory, and brought it down fairly easily. Next he brought out Aggron, and I sent out Ryu to take it on with Vital Throw and Rock Smash. After I brought it down he sent out Metagross, which I had some difficulty fighting because I wasn't quite sure what it was weak against. I finally got it down by using Shade to fight it with Bite, and after that things got really difficult.

Steven went ahead and brought out Claydol, and I couldn't figure out how to counter it. I had a couple Pokemon come out to fight it and get put down, before I had Abel come out and use Hypnosis on it to put it to sleep. While it was asleep, I managed to revive and heal a few of my Pokemon, and then brought out Aeris to finally strike it down with Ice Beam.

Steven sent out Armaldo to fight, and I had to use Aeris with Water Pulse to bring it down. Finally it came down to his Cradily, and I brought out Ryu to fight it. Vital throw brought it down to low health, but then it went and confused Ryu and bought itself an extra turn when he hurt himself. It got another hit on Ryu, but then Ryu snapped out of confusion and gave the final blow, knocking out Cradily and defeating Steven to make me the newest Champion of Hoenn Region.

Now that I'm finally done with the Elite Four, I can focus now on getting the Legendary Pokemon of Hoenn. Tomorrow the fun really begins, first the Legendary Pokemon and then onward to Pokemon Pearl!

Pokemon Sapphire - The painful cost of losing to the Elite Four

It's pretty damn hard training my Pokemon to compete against the Elite Four, and I thought that it'd be a good idea to go through a few dry runs with them, not using items, and just building up my Pokemon in combat so I can fight against them with items. I've gone through once, gotten a bit farther than I thought I would without item usage, and I got my Pokemon leveled a bit more.

Unfortunately, right after I saved the game, I went and checked my trainer card to see how much money I currently had with the two wins under my belt... only to realize that I was DOWN tens of thousands of Poke-dollars. That's right, not only did I lose the painful gauntlet that is the Elite Four, they also took my fucking money.

It's been a long time since I've lost against trainers, the last being Watson of the electric gym for the third badge. I hadn't thought of checking my cash for the losses, just thought about building my Pokemon up and getting them through that old bastard, and I never noticed how much I may have lost by losing against him a few times.

More trainers on the roads are itching for a fight, and since I can now fly back to the Elite Four building in Evergrande City directly, I'll go and battle as many as possible and get my Pokemon hopefully leveled up quickly. At the least, I'll be able to build my funds up to what they were.

I can't wait to beat these assholes, get all the Legendary Pokemon, and move on to Pearl. Sapphire is definitely losing it's charm and I've got several more Pokemon games to get through before it's all over.
