I've trained Annabelle, Marcus, and Maximus all to Level 9, and I've also caught a Kricketot for my collection while level grinding last night. Annabelle learned Absorb, Maximus learned Charge, and Marcus learned Quick Attack AND Wing Attack.
On Route 202 I fought a Trainer, Natalie, beat her two Bidoofs with Annabelle but came up just short of Level 10 on experience, and I got about $50 for my effort. Fortunately, one wild Pokemon battle soon after got Annabelle to Level 10. Fought another Trainer on Route 202, named Logan, who sent out a Shinx. I sent out Marcus to battle it, and just a couple attacks later I had victory and $80.
I reached Jubilife City, the "City of Joy" as the sign said. Dawn met me at the entrance of the city and told me that Simon was at the Trainer's School, to which I can only hope they're teaching him to slow the fuck down. I'm probably gonna get knocked over by him this time too, like EVERY other time I've seen him so far.
Before I decided to talk with him, seeing him reading the topics on the board, I went to talk to everyone else in the room first, and found a couple Trainers in a side-room, a gymnasium-like room where I was asked to battle. I was glad to have someone ASK to battle, and not just be "I saw you, we gotta battle now!" I fought Christine, who had an Abra. Marcus took it out in one shot with Wing Attack, and grew to Level 10. I also fought Harrison, he also had an Abra. I sent out Marcus first, then switched to Maximus so he could get experience. After the battle, I got TM10 (Hidden Power).
I went up to Simon, and surprisingly enough he was still engrossed in the information on the blackboard. I gave him the parcel, which held two region maps; I received one of them, and then he left quite calmly. I wonder if maybe his short time with Pokemon is already making him slow down and enjoy life?
I left the Trainer School and bumped into a guy telling me about his brand of Poketech, called a Pokemon Watch, or Poketch for short. He said I have to go around and find three clowns around the city, answer their questions, and then come back to him. The clowns all asked about the capabilities of Pokemon, obviously a way to teach new players about their abilities. It's funny, from what I can see on the Poketch now that I've got it, it's obviously a Smart Watch, and with Diamond/Pearl being released in 2007 people wouldn't think about such things for a few years yet. You wouldn't think a POKEMON game of all things would be forward-thinking.
I went ahead and explored more of the city, getting myself a Quick Claw to give to Annabelle and an Old Rod to fish with. After that, I went east, following after Simon who apparently ran to the next town (guess I was too hasty in my belief of him slowing down). I quickly met up with him on Route 203, where he wanted to battle me. Simon started by sending out a Starly, met by Marcus, but I switched over to Maximus to get him more experience. Maximus' first Tackle did some damage, and his second one did critical damage to knock out the Starly. Simon sent out his Chimchar, and I kept Maximus in the fight for a couple turns. Maximus gave a couple Tackles, but unfortunately those attacks didn't do much, and he was injured. I switched out for Marcus, and a Wing Attack did a lot of damage to Chimchar. Simon thought it might be a close battle, and was completely wrong when a Quick Attack knocked out his Pokemon. Maximus grew to Level 10, and I got $900 for the effort.
I did some training on Route 203, growing my Kricketot up in case I need him to fight, but I'd rather get him switched out for another Pokemon. While training, I was surprised to come across an Abra. I had Kricketot first out for training, and knew even while I switched over to Marcus that I couldn't get it before it Teleported out. I came across another Abra, and this time decided to toss a Pokeball on the off-chance I could catch it, and unfortunately I failed. I came across another Abra (Psychic, Male, LV. 5), deciding I may as well try again, and threw another Pokeball, and this time I caught it. I haven't figured out a name for him yet though.
I went through Route 203, defeated several Trainers, and received HM06 (Rock Smash) as I went through the cave to Oreburgh City, the "City of Energy" according to the sign. I met with Simon at the Gym, and was told that he's got a badge, AND that the Gym Leader left the Gym to go into the Oreburgh Mine. I went exploring through the city before I headed into the mine, got myself a Pal Pad, learned about coal from the Oreburgh Mining Museum, and caught myself a tough Machop (Fighting, male, Lv. 5) that took 3 Pokeballs and finally a Dusk Ball to catch! I decided to name him Alexander.
I decided to go ahead and spend some time training my Pokemon, Alexander specifically.
