Pokemon SoulSilver - Mt. Silver and Catching Moltres

I figured that I should head over to Mt. Silver and see what there was to see, as well as look for the final Legendary Bird, Moltres, near the top. I went through Route 22 to reach Victory Road once more. I went through the gate and continued west to Route 28 to start my way up Mt. Silver.

On Route 28 I found a Tangela (Grass, Female, Lv 39) and caught it after a good battle against Blake. Before I started going up Mt. Silver I found a secluded house, and when I went inside I found out I discovered the home of a minor celebrity. She thought I was the media at first, but then when I revealed I wasn't she then thought I was a fan. She gave me TM47 (Steel Wing) for keeping her home a secret, and nearby I found TM35 (Flamethrower) and then went to a Pokemon Center at the base of the mountain to heal Blake.

After Blake was healed, I started my way into Mt. Silver, and used Rock Climb to get up to the next level before I left for the side of the mountain. I found TM76 (Stealth Rock) and an Escape Rope going up the side, before I went back down and into the caverns again. I saw some nearby waterfalls and I worked my way up there, grabbing an Expert Belt in a cave on my way up the stone walls and waterfalls.

I found a large cave with a deep pit at the center with rocks I could climb up and down on either side, and at the bottom of this pit rested Moltres (Fire/Flying, Lv. 50). I got down there, saved my game after I switched to Samuel, and then I started the battle.

Samuel used Flame Wheel for great damage, then Moltres used Safeguard which stopped itself from getting status effects for five turns. I knew this may be a good thing for me, so that Samuel couldn't inflict burn at least. Samuel used Rock Smash for good damage, then Moltres used Flamethrower for good damage.

I decided to have Samuel use Close Combat for massive damage, and Moltres went to the red before it used Flamethrower to do great damage to Samuel. I started with Pokeballs, using a Dusk Ball with no effect. Samuel was hit with Ancient Power for massive damage, and he was knocked out. I switched to Blake, who was resistant to Fire- and Rock-Type attacks.

I switched to Claire after Safeguard went down, and Claire used Hypnosis after taking massive damage from Air Slash. With Moltres asleep, I tried using Dusk Balls again. A couple Dusk Balls did good, and Moltres just barely got out of one before it hit Claire with Ancient Power for great damage. Claire used Hypnosis again, and then I tried a couple more Dusk Balls.

I decided to give Claire some Moomoo Milk to heal up while Moltres slept, then tried another Dusk Ball. Moltres woke up after breaking out easily, and it did massive damage to Claire with Air Slash. Claire used Hypnosis again, constantly accurate with it, and I tried my last two Dusk Balls.

Both Dusk Balls failed, but this seemed to be the good strategy. I gave Claire another Moomoo Milk while Moltres was asleep, then it woke up to use Air Slash for massive damage again. Another accurate shot with Hypnosis, and Moltres was asleep again. Now I just had my Ultra Balls, but I had many to catch it with.

Soon enough Moltres woke and used Flamethrower to knock Claire out, and then I sent out Blake again. Blake got hit by Flamethrower after a failed Ultra Ball, and then he got burned. I used a Burn Heal to remove it, and then Moltres used Safeguard to protect itself from status effects. I used a Moomoo Milk to heal Blake, before Moltres used Air Slash for great damage.

Blake was eventually knocked out, and then I sent out Edward to hold the line while I kept at it with Ultra Balls. Edward took a critical hit from Ancient Power, but after another Ultra Ball I finally caught Moltres! Finally I had finished the Legendary Bird trio, and I decided that I would not continue up Mt. Silver quite yet. I wanted to train hard, and take on the Elite Four once more to ensure my championship of the Indigo League!

Pokemon SoulSilver - The Cerulean Cave and Catching Mewtwo

I had heard about a cave with powerful Pokemon in Cerulean City, and I found it after a little bit of surfing before I went inside. I had Edward use Flash to brighten up the dark cave, and started to explore. There were odd crystal formations around, and almost immediately I had to use Surf to move through a pond and then up a ladder.

I found myself in a crystal maze, and went around to find TM24 (Thunderbolt) before I went back around and down the ladder again. I surfed around and climbed up some stairs, then snagged a Nugget before going up another ladder, where I found myself in the crystal maze again. I found a PP Up and went down the ladder again.

I did some exploring, and in a battle with some wild Pokemon Samuel grew to Level 60. I found a Full Restore and moved onward, and after a few battles with wild Pokemon, Claire grew to Level 60 too. I smashed some rocks south of the ladder, and I found a Heart Scale, Max Ether, and a Revive before I continued on.

I went up another ladder, and found myself in a large area in the crystal maze. I used my dowsing device to find an Ultra Ball, a Zinc, a Full Heal, a PP Up, and a Big Pearl. I also got into another battle with a wild Pokemon, and Samuel grew to Level 60. I went down the ladder, then under a bridge, and I found a Revive before I went across the bridge to get a Sea Incense and a Max Elixir.

I went up the ladder at the south of the bridges, and found myself in the crystal maze again. I worked my way through, then down a ladder, then down yet another ladder. I found myself in a new part of the cavern, and I found a spot where I needed to use Rock Climb. I couldn't have my Pokemon learn an HM over another HM, so I decided to replace Edward's Flash instead.

I navigated my way through the cavern, grabbing an Ultra Ball, a Max Revive, a Black Sludge, and an Electirizer before I found myself before Mewtwo (Psychic, Lv. 70). I saved the game, then got ready for a tough fight. It was a good thing I loaded up on Ultra Balls and Dusk Balls before I got in here!

Blake was sent out against it, and Mewtwo used Power Swap to do some kind of switch of Attack and Special Attack between it and Blake. Blake used Crunch to do great damage, but it seemed it was weakened from that move. Mewtwo used Power Swap again, then Blake used Crunch again for great damage. Blake used Ice Fang next to do good damage, then Mewtwo used Guard Swap to change defense and special defense.

Mewtwo used Amnesia to increase it's special defense, then Blake used Ice Fang again to do good damage and push Mewtwo to the red. I switched over to Claire, and Mewtwo used Guard Swap again. Mewtwo used Power Swap next, then Claire used Hypnosis to put it to sleep. I tried a couple Dusk Balls with no effect, and then Mewtwo used Psycho Cut to knock out Claire. I sent out Blake again and tried more Dusk Balls.

Mewtwo wasn't doing much besides Guard Swap and Power Swap, but the Dusk Balls appeared to be doing some good. Mewtwo used a Psycho Cut to do massive damage to Blake, but he held on as I kept throwing those Dusk Balls. Blake was knocked out by another Psycho Cut, then I switched to Seth.

Seth got hit by Psycho Cut for massive damage, but he hung on while I kept on with Dusk Balls. Seth was eventually knocked out, and I switched over to Edward and kept on trying. After a time Edward was knocked out too, and I switched over to Samuel. Samuel got knocked out after a couple blows from Psycho Cut, then I had to switch to my last Pokemon, Rayquaza.

I decided to use a Revive to get Claire up and ready to try Hypnosis again. Rayquaza was knocked out, and I had to get Claire back in the fight. Claire was able to put Mewtwo to sleep, then I kept on with Dusk Balls. Thankfully my efforts weren't in vain, and Mewtwo was finally caught while under the effects of Hypnosis!

I went to heal my team at the Pokemon Center, then I gave Edward the Electirizer before trading him over to Sinnoh, then getting him back to make him evolve into Electivire! Now Edward is stronger than ever, and now I'm ready to go to Mt. Silver, at least to check it out.

Current Team:

Blake (Feraligatr, Water, Lv. 60)
Claire (Gengar, Ghost/Poison, Lv. 60)
Samuel (Infernape, Fire/Fighting, Lv. 60)
Seth (Victreebel, Grass/Poison, Lv. 60)
Edward (Electivire, Electric, Lv. 60)
Rayquaza (Dragon/Flying, Lv. 71)

Pokemon SoulSilver - Catching Zapdos

With my team healed up, I flew to Pallet Town to talk to Professor Oak. Oak handed over HM08 (Rock Climb) as a reward for getting my 8th Gym Badge. Professor Oak was impressed by my skills, and the amount of Gym Badges I had gotten from my adventures in Johto and Kanto. Oak told me that he would make arrangements so that I could go to Mt. Silver, a place too dangerous to the average Trainer. I could reach Mt. Silver from the Pokemon League reception gate.

Before I made my way to Mt. Silver, I knew that the other two Legendary Bird Pokemon were out there somewhere, and I had a good idea where to find one of them. I got myself to Cerulean City and went east to the Power Plant, grabbing a Light Clay and TM91 (Flash Cannon) on my way there. I also grabbed a Mawile (Male, Steel, Lv. 13) on Route 10.

Soon enough I got to the Power Plant, and as I suspected I found Zapdos there waiting for me. With Edward at my side, I confronted Zapdos. Edward hit it with Strength for Great damage, then it countered with Ancient Power for good damage. Edward used Strength again for great damage, and then Zapdos countered with Ancient Power again for good damage. Edward used Thunder Punch next for great damage, and it was a critical hit that knocked out Zapdos.

- - -

I reloaded my game, and tried again. Edward used Strength for great damage, then Zapdos countered with Discharge for good damage, and Edward was paralyzed. Zapdos used Discharge again for good damage, then Edward used Thunder Punch for massive damage that dropped Zapdos to the red. With Zapdos in the red, I started using Dusk Balls and Ultra balls to try catching it.

I threw a Dusk Ball and a few Ultra Balls with little luck, but got two shakes before they failed. I had to switch out to Seth, hoping Zapdos didn't have any Flying-type attacks. I kept on with Ultra Balls, then I had to switch to Samuel when Seth took lots of damage, but nothing was working. I got pretty close with a Dusk Ball, but Zapdos broke out and knocked out Samuel.

I sent out Rayquaza next, knowing that it was weak against Electric attacks but hoping that it's level would offer some protection. Rayquaza was getting beat up pretty hard there, and this was yet another time I regretted not having a Ground-type Pokemon on my team. Rayquaza eventually fell, and I sent out Claire, hoping her Hypnosis could help.

Zapdos used Charge to increase it's special defense, and then Claire's Hypnosis missed. Zapdos used Charge again, then Claire hit with Hypnosis, and I tried again to catch it. Ultra Balls were doing nothing even with Zapdos being asleep, and I wondered just how that even worked...

Zapdos woke up and used Discharge, and Claire barely clung on. Zapdos knocked Claire out with Discharge, and I had to send out Blake next. I kept trying to use Ultra Balls and they did nothing, then Blake was hit by Discharge and knocked out. I sent out Seth and he didn't have much health, but he was the only one with any kind of resistance, before he too was knocked out by Discharge.

I just had Edward left, and he wasn't going to last much longer. I used a Hyper Potion to heal Edward, and Zapdos used Charge. I didn't know how much more fight Zapdos had in it before it would run out of PP for it's attacks, so I knew I'd have to catch it soon. I kept using Ultra Balls to minimal effect, and eventually Edward was knocked out and I blacked out.

- - -

I reloaded my game and tried yet again, wondering just WHY it was so hard to catch these Legendary Pokemon when they were in the red AND ASLEEP! I don't understand how a Pokemon who's so badly injured and sleeping could resist so strongly.

I got Zapdos to the yellow with one Thunderbolt from Edward, then I used a Dusk Ball with no effect. I sent out Blake, and Zapdos used Ancient Power for good damage. Blake hit Zapdos with Surf for good damage, and it had a sliver of health before hitting Blake with Discharge for massive damage. I would try using my Dusk Balls first before using Ultra Balls to catch it.

Edward was eventually knocked out, and I sent out Claire to fight. She got hit by Ancient Power for massive damage, but then she hit Zapdos with Hypnosis to put it to sleep. I tried using some Ultra Balls with it asleep and running on a sliver of health, but it broke free after two shakes. Next Ultra Ball didn't get a single shake, third one got one shake, fourth didn't get one shake, and fifth was the same before Zapdos woke up and used Charge to increase it's special defense.

Claire used Hypnosis again after Agility failed, and then I tried again. Another Ultra Ball got a few shakes before Claire was hit hard by Discharge. Zapdos avoided Hypnosis, and failed with Agility before Claire used Hypnosis again. I used a Hyper Potion to heal Claire while Zapdos slept, then tried again with more Ultra Balls.

After a while Claire and Seth both went down, and I went through ALL 50 Ultra Balls trying to catch Zapdos. I was getting very frustrated, starting to wonder if I was a fool for using that Master Ball against Latios, wishing that I could somehow purchase more Master Balls for even an exorbitant rate.

- - -

Eventually, after a few more tries and a LOT of Ultra Balls, I FINALLY caught Zapdos! I grow worried about how difficult it will be to catch Moltres, and Mewtwo, but at least I have special Pokeballs to catch Groudon!
