I flew back to Viridian City, and then I went south on Route 1 toward Pallet Town. I fought several Trainers along the way, and soon enough I found myself in Pallet Town approaching Professor Oak's research lab.
I went inside the lab and talked to a few Scientists around before I talked with Professor Oak. He asked what I thought about Kanto Trainers, and I commented on their strength before I told him I was collecting Kanto Gym Badges. Oak thought the experience would help me, and told me he would have a gift for me when I get them all. I could only imagine what kind of gift he meant as I left.
I went to Red's house after I left Professor Oak's lab, and talked with Red's mother. She told me Red has been away, and hasn't called, so she had no idea where he was or what he was doing. The saying "no news is good news" wasn't very comforting for her, and I could understand that. I wondered what this former Champion of the Indigo League could be up to, and if he was in some kind of trouble.
I went into Red's room before I left, and found that his computer hadn't been used in a long time, and I grew concerned as I went to Blue's house. When I went inside I was greeted by Daisy, the older brother of Blue, who apparently is Gym Leader of the Viridian City Gym. She told me he goes out of town often, causing problems for the Trainers. I wondered how that could work when a Gym Leader needs to be available to accept challenges.
With all I could do finished in Pallet Town, I could only head south toward my next challenge.
