Pokemon Y - Santalune City and the Santalune Gym

I started exploring Santalune City a "traditional city" as the sign said, and quickly found the first clothing store of the region, a place that offers hats and accessories. They had an interesting selection, but nothing that I wanted to buy at that time due to money constraints. I would remember them for later when I had more cash to spend, but right now I need to focus on Pokeballs and Potions.

I went exploring, and spotted a beautiful fountain in the center of the city. It was a stone statue of a Roselia on a blooming flower, and water poured from the rosebuds on it's arms and the flower it was on. As I explored further a citizen in a nearby home gave me a Great Ball, and then I went to check out the Trainers School by the Santalune Gym.

At the Trainers School I received an X Attack and X Defense from a man in the classroom, and I talked to the people there, who gave me basic advice on Pokemon Battles and training. As a Champion of FIVE different leagues, I didn't need such information. I decided to go to the Santalune Gym, and saw the doorway blocked by that Roller Skater I was passed by yesterday.

I talked with her, and she couldn't believe that I didn't own a pair of Roller Skates. She told me that if I could beat her in a battle, she'd give me a pair. With an offer like that, how could I refuse? The girl, Rinka, sent out Zigzagoon while I sent Axel out against it. Axel hit it with Thunder Shock for great damage, then it countered with Tackle for good damage. Axel attacked again with Thunder Shock for great damage, and caused paralysis which halted a counterattack from Zigzagoon. With another Thunder Shock, the battle was over.

Rinka admired my strength, and true to her word she handed over a new pair of Roller Skates. I tried them out and moved every bit as quick as running, then I found I could also start out running and go into a short sprint. It turned out the Roller Skates were an attachment for my shoes, just put them on and move about, and I was glad to have something like this for my journey ahead.

I went to the Pokemon Center to heal my team, and then I went inside the Santalune Gym to earn my first badge. I went inside and was greeted by the Gym Guide there, who told me that I needed to go down a pole to get into the Gym proper. He also told me that this Gym was focused on Bug-Type Pokemon, and I knew that Gabriel could be a big help here.

My team consisted of:

Axel (Pikachu, Electric, Lv. 9)
Bunnelby (Normal, Male, Lv. 10)
Gabriel (Fletchling, Normal/Flying, Lv. 11)
Jack (Froakie, Water, Lv. 11)

I went down the pole, and found myself in the center of a spider web-like platform with glowing lines all around. It looked like I needed to move about the lit paths, covered in dew, and so I followed the path to reach my first Trainer. I sent Axel out against his Ledyba, and after a short battle I emerged victorious.

I continued along the path and got into another battle, and the Youngster's Spewpa went down easily enough against Axel and Gabriel. Axel grew to Level 10, and learned Quick Attack in place of Growl, then I healed my team and continued on. I started heading toward the end, and got into one more battle with another Trainer. The Lass sent out a Kakuna which Axel managed to beat, then a Combee that Gabriel knocked out.

Gabriel grew to Level 12, then I healed him and Axel before I confronted the Gym Leader. She saw the look in my eye, and knew I was up to the challenge. She was a photographer, and she was determined to get my emotions captured by her camera. The Gym Leader, Viola, took my picture before the battle was started.

Viola sent out Surskit, adn I sent Gabriel out against it. Surskit used Quick Attack for good damage, then Gabriel countered with Peck for massive damage. Gabriel attacked with Peck again, and it did great damage that knocked out Surskit.

Vivillon was sent out next, and I sent Axel out against it. Vivillon started with Tackle for good damage, but Axel's Static ability caused it to be paralyzed before Axel countered with Thunder Shock for good damage. Axel hit it with Thunder Shock again for great damage, then it countered with Tackle for good damage. I had Axel press on with another Thunder Shock and Vivillon barely clung on to Tackle and put Axel in the red as well.

Viola used a Potion to heal Vivillon, and Axel struck with Thunder Shock for good damage again. Axel was pretty badly hurt, but I knew that Vivillon could only take one more hit, and so I ordered Axel to do one more Thunder Shock which knocked out Vivillon and Axel grew to Level 11 as the battle ended!

After the battle, Viola told me that my Fletchling and I had shown her a whole new depth of field, and she seemed quite happy. I received the Bug Badge, which would allow Pokemon up to Level 30 to listen to my commands, and she also handed over TM83 (Infestation) which stops an opponent from fleeing a battle.

Viola told me how to leave the gym, up some stairs hidden behind the tent behind her, and sure enough I made my way back to the entrance. It was at this time I noticed the beautiful photographs of Bug-Type Pokemon on the walls, and one of them covered the stair exit. I met up with the Gym Guide and he congratulated me on my first Gym Badge in the Kalos region. He told me to go to the Pokemon Lab in Lumiose City to show the Professor who gave me my Pokemon, and I thought that was a good idea.

I left the Gym to heal my team at the Santalune City Pokemon Center, and felt proud of my team after that first major victory. Things were going well, and I hoped they would continue to go as well as this. I couldn't wait to see more of this region, and to find more new Pokemon!

Current Team:

Gabriel (Fletchling, Normal/Flyinhg, Lv. 12)
Axel (Pikachu, Electric, Lv. 11)
Bunnelby (Normal, Male, Lv. 10)
Jack (Froakie, Water, Lv. 11)
