With HM05 (Whirlpool) in hand, I taught it to Blake in place of Scratch. It turned out to be a multi-turn move like Bind which would do damage every turn for several turns. I wondered if I would be forced to teach Blake another HM to traverse the world or if perhaps this was enough.
As I left the Pokemon Center, I got a call from Baoba and he told me that the second test was ready. I flew over to the Safari Zone where I met him, and he told me for my second test I needed to capture a Sandshrew and show it to him. He revealed to me that it wouldn't be as easy as it sounds, because it would not appear with the current Safari Zone setting. Baoba then led me to a machine, and explained that it would allow me to customize the Safari Zone Areas. He called the the Area Customizer, and it was certainly unique among the Safari Zones I had traversed thus far.
Baoba kept it's workings a secret, but told me that I shouldn't have trouble operating it. He told me to just talk to the staff next to him, then he went back to the table. When Baoba got to the table, he remembered one more thing, that he was in the middle of explaining the second test. He further explained that I would have to use the Area Customizer to change the Safari Zone areas to insert the desert area. He wished me luck, then relaxed at the table.
I went up to the Area Customizer, and turned it on, then I switched out the Mountain for the Desert and turned it off. I felt the ground shaking, then I heard a voice from the system tell me that the areas had been changed. I paid my dues and went out into the desert area, ready to get a Sandshrew.
I first spotted a Marowak, but I didn't want to grab it because I figured I could find a Cubone instead, if I hadn't already found it on the Pokewalker. My next find was a Sandshrew (Ground, Male, Lv. 16) and I tossed some Bait, before I threw a Safari Ball, and that single ball caught it! With my test already completed, I decided to explore the Desert area further.
I soon came across a Cubone (Ground, Male, Lv. 16) and caught it, then when I could only find the same four Pokemon I went and searched the other areas. All I was finding were Pokemon I had already caught or evolutions of Pokemon I had already caught, so I decided to leave, switch out Lucas for the Sandshrew, and then I went back to the Safari Zone building to show Baoba. He told me that I had passed the test... and that I was now the Safari Zone Owner!
Baoba told me he always wanted to see young people playing at the safari, and that he knew this would help me complete my Pokedex. He said that was why he had been thinking about the Safari Zone, and giving it to me. He asked that I continue to pay admission, and that they had their reasons, but I was more than happy to pay the fair price. He told me he'd keep thinking about how to create new, fun ways to help me complete my Pokedex. Finally Baoba told me to have fun at the Safari Zone, and I left to get Lucas back.
I knew I'd have to change the areas around and really explore the possibilities, but soon I'd have a great way to expand my Pokedex! Two Championships under my belt, and now I'm the owner of the Johto Safari Zone. I wondered what would happen next!
